Housing and Land
The Housing and Land directorate is responsible for the Mayor’s plans to deliver new and improved homes and strong communities. Working closely with boroughs and partners, we manage the Mayor’s housing investment programmes and land and property assets to support the building of affordable homes, job creation and regeneration.
About the team
This role is in the Housing Strategy and Policy team, which is responsible for developing the Mayor’s housing policies. The remit of the Housing Strategy and Policy team covers a broad range of policy areas including new supply, homelessness, rough sleeping, building safety and private rented sector policy. In this post you will be working alongside colleagues to formulate policy to deliver on the Mayor’s priorities and to ensure these policies are informed by sound evidence.
About the role
In this role you’ll become an expert in finding the evidence to support the Mayor's agenda to tackle London's housing crisis. You will use your knowledge and analytical skills to inform the work of colleagues across the Housing & Land directorate and the Mayor’s Office, on topics including housebuilding, homelessness and the housing market. You will also ensure that decision makers and Londoners alike have access to the right data and insights, through leading on high-profile publications such as the annual ‘Housing in London’ report. You’ll be able to draw on evidence from a variety of sources and using a range of techniques to understand the complexities of London’s housing circumstances, and how different communities in London are affected. You will manage a small team of housing analysts, delegating effectively and supporting their career development. And you will build positive working relationships with colleagues in other teams, in government and with wider stakeholders.
What your day will look like
- Preparing high-profile analysis publications such as the annual Housing in London report
- Carrying out or supervising research and analysis to inform the development of the Mayor's policies and programmes
- Briefing senior officers, the press team and the Deputy Mayor for Housing on the latest housing statistics
- Supporting the development of the team's Housing Analyst and Senior Housing Analyst
- Developing positive working relationships with contacts across the GLA and in government departments, statistical agencies, private companies and universities
Skills, knowledge and experience
To be considered for the role you must meet and address the following essential technical requirements in your application:
- A proven ability to produce robust analysis to provide expert advice and guidance
- An ability to support the professional development of a small team of analysts
- A commitment to the GLA’s EDI objectives

Assessment process
Once you have submitted an application, your details will be reviewed by a panel.
If shortlisted, you’ll be invited to an interview and will also be required to participate in a short assessment. The interview will be competency based and address the technical requirements and competencies outlined above.

Benefits
GLA staff are hybrid working up to 3 days a week in our offices and remotely depending on their role. As part of this, you will need to split your time between home working and coming into the office.
