Chief Finance Officer’s Directorate
Supports the Mayor’s Office and wider GLA on a variety of different aspects: from managing daily financial decisions to setting long-term objectives; budget setting; and observing and recognising projects and opportunities in the market that may be worthy of development or investment.
About the team
The team works within the Financial Services unit providing financial accounting for the GLA. The focus of the team is the preparation of the published financial statements as well as ensuring adequate financial control is exercised across the organisation.
About the role
This role provides accounting and administrative support to senior finance staff in the Technical Accountancy team. The role is varied and challenging and requires strong Excel skills.
You will have experience of working in a Finance environment and with financial systems. You will be able to apply financial rules and regulations to the processing of transactions, reconciliations, reporting; and be able to multi-task and resolve financial queries.
A flexible approach and the ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities is essential, as is the ability to work under pressure and in a methodical and organised manner.
What your day will look like
- Review of daily BACS runs
- Periodic financial reporting
- Aged debt reporting/ recommendations for write off
- General accounting duties, including journals, expense claims, general ledger reconciliations, etc
- Support delivery of audit outputs
- Production of specified notes to the accounts
- Entry of sales invoices including set up of new customers
- Ensure appropriate accounting treatment is applied to routine transactions
- Provide advice and guidance on accounting matters to non-finance colleagues
- Support key finance processes such as closure of accounts and financial statement production and publication
Skills, knowledge and experience
To be considered for the role you must meet the following essential criteria:
- Understanding of financial practices and procedures.
- Numerical skills appropriate to the need to undertake analysis of financial data.
- Experience of working with financial systems.
- Ability to use standard office software applications, including Word and Excel, in a financial environment.
