Overview of role
Working on Land Survey projects for a range of TfL clients including London Underground, Trams, Highways, Commercial Property and Major Projects. The role holder will process geospatial data in survey software packages and produce 2D/3D drawings for use by our clients. Survey projects could include topographic surveys for highways improvements, 3D laser scanning of stations, buildings and other civils infrastructure, creating 3D BIM models and 360-degree photography virtual tours.
Day-to-day, your focus will be on providing survey data, drawings, models and geospatial information that keep vital, innovative and big-budget projects moving. As a Digital Engineer specialising in 3D point cloud data, you will be responsible for processing survey and laser scan data and creating accurate drawings and models. You’ll apply your own technical expertise across a wide range of complex projects and programmes, providing trusted engineering data to make sure assets are safe, working and compliant.
Key Accountabilities
- Utilise software packages to process and manipulate 3D point cloud data.
- Create accurate and detailed 2D drawings and 3D models based on survey data and laser scans.
- Collaborate with project teams to ensure the integration of 3D point cloud data into overall design processes.
- Conduct quality checks on CAD models and drawings to ensure accuracy and adherence to project specifications.
- Work closely with engineers and designers to refine and optimise CAD models for efficient project execution.
- Stay updated on industry best practices and emerging technologies related to 3D point cloud processing in CAD.
Skills, Knowledge & Experience
Skills
- Proficient in the use of CAD or Surveying software packages (for Example Bentley MicroStation, Autodesk AutoCAD/Revit, Leica Cyclone, Atlas SCC.
- Skilled in working with 3D point cloud data and converting it into accurate 2D drawings and 3D models.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and communicate effectively with project stakeholders.
- Excellent technical skills with a high attention to detail and an ability to understand technical briefings.
- Detail-oriented with a focus on precision and accuracy in CAD work.
Knowledge
- Sound working knowledge of survey data processing or CAD drafting techniques and their practical application.
- Possesses a minimum of a Level 3 qualification in CAD design, Land Survey or equivalent in a relevant engineering discipline.
- Awareness of relevant industry standards and best practices in CAD design and 3D modelling
- Awareness of risks associated with their work and the potential impacts on colleagues and the transport system.
- Awareness of the TfL Vision, Mayoral Transport Strategy, Business priorities and financial constraints
- Awareness of the interfaces between Land Survey discipline and the wider transport system
Experience
- Experience in 2D and 3D CAD drafting
- Experience working with 3D Point Cloud data.
- Experience of producing technical documentation or reports
- Previous experience working on highways, rail, or large infrastructure projects is desirable.
