About the role
Transport for London (TfL) is looking for a Human Factors (HF) Engineer to join our Systems Performance & Integration team and help shape the future of TfL’s assets and infrastructure across a diverse portfolio of projects and modes of transportation.
In this role you will provide professional human factors engineering expertise to our Engineering and Asset Strategy function supporting Asset Refurbishment, System Upgrades and Network Developments. You will be required to work within multi-disciplinary engineering teams, adapting theory to deal with the reality of our investment programme. This position will require you to work with operations and programme management teams as well as maintain and implement network and programme human factors processes and tools and deliver human factors requirements and designs. You will ensure technical compliance and provide human factors assurance to contribute to a safe and performing transport system.
Building collaborative working relationships with colleagues in related disciplines is essential, promoting TfL human factors capabilities internally, and externally through liaison with suppliers, other external partners and transportation operators will be an important part of your remit. An ability to identify novel solutions to challenges is very desirable; the role demands not just technical experts, but pragmatists in application.
What you’ll need (essential skills, knowledge & experience)
- You will have a relevant degree and be a Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute of Ergonomics and Human Factors or working towards Chartership.
- You will have a good knowledge of international human factors standards and engineering assurance processes.
- You will have experience of working on large, high profile engineering projects which will have given you a good knowledge of transport operations, procedures and job management activities.
- You will have the ability to work on multiple projects and manage competing demands
- You will have provided technical expertise to support and establish fit for purpose human factors delivery at each stage of the engineering lifecycle.
- You will have the ability to build effective working relationships at all levels of the organisation, present ideas succinctly to both engineers and non-engineering stakeholders; and represent TfL’s interests with external parties.
It is equally important that you bring a passion for innovation and sustainability to help us to support London's economic recovery and achieve our vision of being the green heartbeat of London.
