Transport for London (TfL) is looking for an experienced Systems Performance Engineer to join our Systems Performance & Integration team to help shape the future of TfL’s assets and infrastructure across a diverse portfolio of projects and modes of transportation.

You will have the ability to analyse and visualise complex data, draw conclusions and produce reports. You can interpret power infrastructure scheme design and process and analyse data. You will be able to undertake systems modelling and use specialised system modelling & simulation tools in both Windows and Linux/Unix-based operating environment.  You will have an understanding of DC electrical circuits, application of Ohm’s Law, the physics of rail vehicle motion and mechanical and electrical efficiency.

You will be part of a team of power and performance modelling engineers, focussing on traction power simulations for energy consumption and power sizing, liaising with power engineers and others to find appropriate network solutions.

You will be involved with reducing costs by optimising capital investment, scope, asset utilisation, system design, Journey Time and energy consumption, and enhancing system capacity and reliability by identifying and developing solutions to mitigate system constraints and points of failure. The role also involves verification and validation system designs, and integration of railway sub-systems to enable the desired performance outcome and improving sustainability by assessing and monitoring the customer environment to inform system technical solutions.

Working alongside our team of Engineers you will help to create a culture of continuous improvement through the identification of best practice, innovation and whole life cost optimisation.

As a highly motivated and adaptable engineer, you will have significant experience of applying your System Performance knowledge and skills across a project lifecycle: feasibility, concept, detailed design, installation, commissioning, and maintenance.  You will be degree qualified (or equivalent) and hold domain knowledge that is relevant to TfL transportation modes.  You will have the ability to build effective working relationships at all levels of the organisation, present ideas succinctly to both engineers and non-engineering stakeholders; and represent TfL’s interests with external parties.
