Overview of the role
A Telecoms Engineer within a well-established pan-organisational team. The successful applicant will provide vital support for the initiation and delivery of our projects and programmes, delivering Mayoral Transport Strategy benefits, supporting the organisation’s safety priorities and delivering planned asset upgrades.
This role is centred around building the team’s Operational Telecoms capability by producing designs, associated drawings, information, calculations and enabling improvement of transport system operational performance in line with policies, technical strategies and local procedures as required.
What we expect you to be doing?
- Ensuring the safety, functionality and compliance of newly implemented or altered assets, engineering processes, procedures or systems.
- Leading the technical definition, development and implementation of low complexity engineering solutions through the application of defined engineering standards and governance.
- Provides internal stakeholders with appropriate challenge and professional advice to ensure the development or delivery of high quality, tested engineering solutions.
- Undertakes on-site risk-based monitoring and surveillance of works as required, resolving and or escalating risks and issues as appropriate.
- Maintains working knowledge of applicable standards, design codes and legislation applicable to their discipline or functional specialism.
- Evaluates, selects and applies appropriate solutions to low risk/value/complexity engineering problems that improve efficiency or effectiveness, while improving safety and reducing operating costs.
- Makes technical recommendations for own discipline or functional specialism to customers or senior management to inform technical decision making.
- Supports continuous improvement through the use of best practice, innovation, whole life cost optimisation and effective root cause analysis.
What do we expect you to bring to the team?
Your knowledge:
- An overall understanding of Telecoms engineering within an integrated public transportation system with excellent domain knowledge of their respective job role specialism.
- Design and implementation knowledge of Telecoms operational control systems (PA, CCTV, PHP, CIS, SMS), both analogue and digital, with a degree of understanding of the principles of wired and wireless transmission technologies.
- Good knowledge of engineering safety management and its application within the railway environment.
- Good knowledge of developments in Telecoms products and emerging technologies within the industry and a good knowledge of relevant TfL, British and International standards.
- A working knowledge of cyber security methods and controls.
- Good knowledge and practical experience of TfL processes, delivery of Assurance and industry best practices.
- Good knowledge of developments in Telecoms products and emerging technologies within the data Telecoms industry.
Your experience:
- Good experience within the Telecoms industry with a wide-ranging experience of Telecoms engineering and its practical application to high value programmes.
- Good level of experience and personal responsibility for providing professional engineering support to major/ projects and maintenance organisation(s), where there are complex interfaces.
- Good record of continuing professional development and contribution to the knowledge base of the profession.
