Job Purpose

Over a set period of 12 months, this post will contribute to the efficient and effective setting up of and future proofing of the HR Shared Services by being responsible for processing comprehensive Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) pensions administration for Greater London Authority and Old Oak and Park Royal Development Corporation employees, and enabling the transition of these activities into business as usual requirements for TfL's employee services team.

 

Key Accountabilities

  • Deliver core LGPS administration activities for the Greater London Authority (GLA) including: processing leavers; calculating all types of pensionable pay (including Assumed Pensionable Pay); reviewing regular submissions to the third party pension administrator; generating estimates; answering technical queries; working closely with the Payroll function.
  • Ensure that a full documented process and guidance is in place on key LGPS administration activities for the GLA.
  • Ensure an effective hand off process is created and documented with the GLA to enable the TfL Employee Services team to undertake the LGPS administration activity.
  • Manage Key stakeholders within the GLA & Old Oak and Park Royal Development Corporation (OPDC), dealing regularly with the People Function on key updates related to Pensions and processes.
  • Analysing, interpreting the financial/ pension data to provide updates to GLA / OPDC employees on their scheme.
  • Update HRSS Senior Management at TfL at periodic performance meetings focusing on Service Level Agreements and employee feedback.
  • Create and provide documented guidance on using and updating tools to support the correct calculation and payments of all types of pension benefits in the LGPS fund that GLA & OPDC users are eligible for, to enable training and understanding of HRSS staff and the ability to future proof the tool for continuous improvement purposes. 

 

Skills, Knowledge & Experience

 

Skills

  • Strong communication skills with both internal and external stakeholders
  • Have the ability to maintain and monitor Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) portal to ensure accuracy of data.
  • Have the ability to maintain and monitor accuracy of case records, making necessary improvements and tracking progress against agreed metrics.
  • Attention to detail and ensures accuracy and can review documentation and identify ways to improve its presentation.
  • Excellent customer service focus with the ability to assess client needs, build relationships and manage expectations.
  • A great team worker - an emerging role model with the ability to support and develop others on LGPS processes.
  • Being able to analyse, interpret and present data to peers and senior stakeholders.

 

Knowledge

  • Good knowledge of regular, complex, and sensitive Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) cases
  • Understands and know how to apply the jurisdictional law, regulation and agreed policy in relation pensions related    activity
  • Strong knowledge of LGPS schemes including end to end processes to allow administration of the scheme.
  • To train colleagues on how to check complex calculations of pension benefits/entitlements, including Ill Health Retirement, Early Retirement benefits including redundancy.

 

Experience

  • Experience and knowledge of delivering administration services to a Local Government Pensions Scheme (LGPS).
  • Creation of process documents including process maps, standard operating procedures, and training delivery.
  • Experience in analysing, interpreting, and presenting financial data to a range of key stakeholders.
  • Experiencing of leading the development and upskilling of others on LGPS processes
  • Experience of identifying and simplifying a complex customer process in order to deliver excellent customer service

Fixed term contract opportunity for 12 months


As a fixed term contractor we can offer you a choice of pension arrangements. If you choose not to take our final salary pension scheme you will be paid an allowance on top of your salary, subject to Tax and National Insurance. We will share all the details with you at offer stage and the choice will be yours based on your circumstances. Depending on what you choose you can add up-to 14% to your salary.

Hybrid working within this role enables a balance of 50 per cent of time split between the office and home over a 4 week period. Hybrid working arrangements can evolve subject to business requirements.
