Grade-  MMH1 

Salary- Circa to £71,000  

Location – Predominantly Ruislip Acton and Lillie Bridge but will be a requirement to support teams in different locations across the network 

Contract Type – Permanent – London Underground

Overview of project/role 
 
A key member of the Business Optimisation Management team, this role will be responsible for developing, maintaining and delivering safety improvements through projects/programmes to improve health and safety performance across Logistics and Manufacturing (L&M). 
 
Job holder will collaborate with accountable colleagues across L&M and the SHE community to develop and deliver a positive health and safety culture in across all areas to ensure compliance with legislative, regulatory and the LU SHE Management System requirements. 
 

Key Accountabilities  

 

  • Undertake and maintain a SHE Compliance for all areas within L&M
  • Undertake the creation and final sign off of safe systems or work; risk assessments (incl workplace risk assessments, CoSHH assessments, Manual Handling assessments and any other risk assessments relevant L&M activities) to ensure continuous compliance with legislation, LU SHE standards and business requirements. 
  • Providing specialist support to L&M Management team in regards to incident response and highlighted safety issues to uphold the organisational commitment to zero injuries to our staff
  • Day to day engagement with operational staff, managers and safety reps to ensure a consistent approach to safety management and communication; to encourage reporting and ownership of health and safety issues at all levels of our business.
  • Supporting development and delivery of risk based, L&M-wide Safety improvement projects and programmes to iprove SHE performance and culture, ensuring strategic links to TfL’s SHE vision, standards and best practice. Also, translating these into practical steps for the wider L&M department. Collaboration and communication with key stakeholders to define the method and approach to SHE across the department creating an operational learning environment through coaching/training to ensure best practice is maintained throughout and where continuous improvement is driven at all levels
  • Continuously review and report on SHE performance using appropriate metrics to ensure provide assurance; identify tactical opportunities and data to support improvements & evidence process confirmation in the short, medium & long term to develop innovative ways to ensure SHE practices bring value add to the business, whilst also advocating L&M colleagues to continue identifying safety improvements to assist in building a positive safety culture
  • Positively represent L&M with external stakeholders by providing day to day tactical and L&M-wide input with regulators  and collaborate with SHE professionals across TfL and key stakeholders to deliver TfL's SHE vision.  
  • Competently advising on use of SHE management systems & providing SHE training to ensure company requirements are met, operating within relevant safety requirements, ensuring that all are carried out to regulatory & LU standards
  • Responsible for working collaboratively with operational colleagues and Trade Unions to build ownership and a positive safety culture, compliance and accountability, whilst also developing strong relationships across the business  and using coaching and mentoring to establish a culture of excellence in SHE management for L&M 

 

Skills, Knowledge & Experience  

 

Essential  Knowledge of the relevant SHE legislation, standards and procedures 

Essential: Relevant SHE qualification, e.g. NEBOSH certificate minimum (Level 6 qualification is preferred) 

Essential Skills : Very strong interpersonal skills and excellent written and verbal communication 

Essential Skills: Must be highly delivery focussed, flexible and collaborative with colleagues at all levels 

Essential Experience Practical application of relevant health and safety legislation and standards in an operational environment 

Essential Skills: must hold or be willing to hold Depot Area A and basic track awareness

Desirable Experience; working in a unionised environment and collaborating with Safety reps on a routine basis

 

 Desirable:  

 

  • Strong knowledge of rail, road transport, warehousing or manufacturing environment, asset registers and systems 
  • Good knowledge of manufacturing and/or transport operations   
  • Strong knowledge of SHE techniques (for example incident investigation, risk assessment and assurance) 
  • Good knowledge of TfL SHE management system, policies procedures and systems such as CYPOL, IE2 and Maximo
