Overview of project/role

 

Job holder is responsible for the organisation and allocation of resources and to ensure Production teams to meet weekly schedules in accordance with time, budget and required quality. Job holder is expected to re-prioritise work on a daily basis to complete unplanned repairs/works and co-ordinate the daily allocation of planned maintenance and Operational requirements are met. Job holder is further expected to ensure that Manufacturing & Maintenance Production teams operate in a safe manner and that all Statutory Safety Standards are complied. This will be achieved through effective communication of practices and overseeing performance of Workshop/Depot staff.

 

Key Accountabilities

 

  • Organise and control the performance of Depot/Workshop staff and assets against specified safety standards in accordance with health and safety legislation and London Underground policies & practices
  • Co-ordinate the allocation of Production areas to ensure Operational and maintenance requirements are met. Liaising with the Delivery Manager to ensure all scheduled work can be completed efficiently and safely
  • Continuously monitor the performance of the Plant team to ensure all components and vehicles are prepared for service and all notified defects are dealt with correctly. Responsible for facilitating the initial investigation of defective parts withdrawn from service through communication with relevant parties and following established best practice
  • Report daily at the visualisation meeting with performance against the plan and ensuring any deviations are accompanied with a recovery plan
  • Responsible for ensuring that appropriate systems are in place, to capture the actual hours worked by production staff on individual work packages. This will enable analysis to be undertaken and to ensure that individual jobs do not overspend when compared with budget
  • Accountable for facilitating the resolution of any technical problems that may occur during the course of undertaking individual work packages.
  • Provide support to direct reports and liaise with professional engineers to resolve technical problems as they occur
  • Administer depot/workshop disciplinary, attendance, staff grievance, welfare and negotiating procedures. Also taking an active role in individual team members development and training to ensure that all staff have the necessary skills / training and that relevant licences are held and revalidated as necessary
  • Work closely with Delivery Manager, introducing & implementing improvement initiatives/suggestions within the unit

 

Skills, Knowledge & Experience

 

Skills

  • Ability to influence and motivate wide variety of stakeholders while building and sustaining relationships at all levels (Essential)
  • Strong ability to examine complex problems using a range of techniques, and generate solutions that are easily understood (Essential)
  • Highly developed communication skills, both orally and in writing and able to present convincing arguments for change (Essential)
  • Proven ability to take a continuous improvement initiative from feasibility through to successful delivery, generating and maintaining business support
  • Ability to interpret and present statistics and other data / information to identify improvement opportunities
  • Plant maintenance experience and supervisory experience (Essential)
  • Electrical or mechanical qualification (Essential)
  • Experience of working on plant maintenance systems, building services and plant maintenance activity’s (Essential)

 

Knowledge

  • People leadership knowledge and company standards
  • SAP knowledge essential to produce charts and reports
  • Good understanding of visualisation meetings and structure
  • Proven knowledge of either track/plant or further Workshop/Depot specialisms
  • An excellent understanding of management legislation, policy and strategies
  • An understanding of Health, Safety, Environment and Quality management systems and practices
  • Working knowledge of engineering and safety standard’s e.g LOLER standards, COSHH , Pressure regulations etc (Essential)

 

Experience

  • Hold relevant engineering qualification (Essential)
  • The ability to plan and make the best use of available resources within a given budget
  • Suggest and implement improvements in the department
  • Experience of working with stakeholders at all levels to deliver business improvements which have lasting results
  • Experience of providing competent asset advice, within the relevant section
  • Experience of supporting and coaching / training stakeholders to deliver their responsibilities
