Job role 
Overall accountability for planning, implementing and delivering the strategic environmental business improvement plan to ensure a cost effective and legally compliant waste and recycling service to meet TfL's obligations under UK legislation and Mayoral targets. 

 

Key Accountabilities  

  • Working with the business to deliver legal compliance and, continuous improvement of environmental operations.  
  • Take account of corporate targets and objectives, ensuring TfL are leading on all Environmental targets set by the Mayor's Office.
  • Conduct regular reviews with Commercial team and suppliers to monitor performance and spend against Key Performance and Service Delivery Indicators as outlined within contractual agreements, ensuring best value is achieved through all existing commercial agreements.
  • Develop, implement, deliver and monitor robust environmental key performance indicators, monitoring compliance through metric reporting and management information data to support internal and external customers ensuring focus on correct areas of performance against business priorities.
  • Work with stakeholders to develop and effectively manage local business improvement and audit programmes; ensuring a focus on environmental compliance and enhancements.
  • Develop good relations with stakeholders, using industry and market knowledge to effectively identify and enable any future opportunities.
  • Responsible for responding to any escalated issues to ensure a positive relationship with trade unions.
  • Continual reviews to streamline and enhance current processes, delivering a more sustainable and straightforward experience for the business.

 

Skills, Knowledge & Experience  
Skills

  • Proven stakeholder management skills to promote, enhance and influence in line with business and departmental priorities.
  • Excellent IT skills using Microsoft office packages for the preparation of business reports and presentations  
  • Proven Commercial and financial awareness.
  • Considered decision making in a pressurised environment.

 

Knowledge

  • NEBOSH Certificate in Environmental Management,
  • Extensive knowledge of Waste and environmental management legislation
  • Proven development of continuous improvement for enhancement of Customer Experience.
  • Excellent Knowledge and practical application of MS Word, MS Excel, MS Project, Outlook and SAP.
  • Good commercial knowledge within an Environmental and Waste management environment.

 

Experience

  • Proven track record of implementing Business Strategies and Change Initiatives.
  • Experience of working in a complex unionised environment.
  • Experience in managing budgets
  • Experience in collaboration with a large and diverse stakeholder base
  • Extensive experience of working in the Environmental and Waste Management industry and have strong awareness of all required legislation and environmental standards.
  • Proven experience in continual development and implementation of operational and organisational strategies, policies
