Job title: Senior Manufacturing Engineer (CAD)

Salary: £63,000 - £65,000    Grade: MMGO

Location :  Acton Works (Bollo Road) & Lille Bridge Depot, West Kensington, London.

Contract:  Permanent – Full Time

Job Purpose

To drive robust engineering solutions to manufacturing problems and to support production managers on technical issues. This specific role will require specialist knowledge of CAD / CAM specialising in the design & manufacture of specialist tooling & fixtures.

 

Key Accountabilities

  • Responsible for the delivery of engineering solutions within workshops, ensuring that changes to engineering specifications and engineering modifications raised by Central Engineering and asset areas are implemented into production processes and act as single point of contact for customers on technical issues.
  • Manage the resolution of all technical queries in respect to production, project delivery and material procurement. This will involve collaborating with Central Engineering, Suppliers and Projects.
  • Manage a team of engineers providing technical support to workshop production areas, the team will include project engineers from R & E and Major Projects and shop floor fitters as appropriate.
  • Manage the production of all necessary documentation in order to support delivery. In particular Work Instructions which instruct the shop floor how to carry out the overhaul or repair and Bills of Materials which specifies what materials are to be used for each activity.
  • Produce estimates in line with customer specifications and requirements. This will involve estimating all activities involved in the activities on an hour by hour basis. This is required all of workshop labour hours, are charged out to the asset area or project. This together with the cost of the materials allows the customer to budget for the activity or project.
  • Develop Bills of Materials in line with customer specifications, drawings and LUL standards. This involves specifying what materials are required at component level do complete the activity. This will involve working with Central Engineering, Commercial and Suppliers.
  • Generate and maintain SAP Master Data. This is the data used by materials control and procurement to buy materials to correct specification.

 

Skills, Knowledge & Experience

Knowledge

  • A HNC (or equivalent) in an engineering subject is essential. 
  • Ideally served a recognised apprenticeship in either a mechanical or electrical engineering discipline. 
  • A broad based knowledge of general engineering principles.
  • A good knowledge of LUL rolling stock and equipment.
  • A good knowledge of CAD systems and engineering design principles and drawing standards as applied to LU design. 
  • A good working knowledge of the Health & safety at Work Act 1974.

 

Skills

  • A high level of numerical and analytical ability is required along with well developed communication, negotiating and inter-personal skills.
  • Computer literate, able to effectively use spreadsheets and project planning software such as as Microsoft Project and/or Primavera.
  • Commercial Acumen. Ability to work to tight deadlines.

 

Experience

  • A proven record of having managed an engineering team.
  • Experience of implementing solutions to complex technical engineering issues across various engineering disciplines.
  • Demonstrated experience working in a regulated health and safety critical environment.
