We’re looking for a proactive and skilled Senior Claims Manager to support TfL’s mission to keep London moving safely and efficiently. As a key member of TfL’s insurance team, you’ll help ensure we manage claims in a consistent, effective and financially responsible way across the organisation.

In this role, you’ll use your technical claims expertise to support colleagues across TfL, from Operations and Legal to HSE and senior leaders,  giving clear, practical advice that protects our people, customers and services. You’ll help strengthen TfL’s approach to managing claims and uninsured loss recoveries by improving processes, supporting better decisions and ensuring suppliers meet high standards.

About the Role

We’re seeking an experienced Senior Claims Manager to lead TfL’s organisation wide strategy for insurance claims and uninsured loss recoveries. 

In this pivotal role, you’ll ensure TfL’s risk, insurance and claims operations are robust and efficient. You’ll work with senior leaders, external suppliers and regulators to advise on major losses, reduce claims exposure, and enhance defensibility and increase uninsured loss recovery performance. 

This is a unique opportunity to play a critical part in safeguarding the transport network that keeps London moving. 

 

Key Accountabilities

  • Develop and deliver TfL’s overall strategy for insurance claims and uninsured loss recoveries. 
  • Manage major external suppliers including Third Party Administrators (TPA), insurers, loss adjusters, Uninsured Loss Recovery (ULR) assessors and brokers. and thirdparty handlers. 
  • Management of procurement processes linked to TPA and ULR contracts. 
  • Present claims insights to senior leaders and support major incident responses. 
  • Analyse claims data to identify trends, reduce spend and improve outcomes. 
  • Maintain claims policies, manuals, reporting processes and best practice. 
  • Provide high quality technical advice to internal stakeholders. 
  • Support insurance renewals by ensuring accuracy and quality of claims data. 
  • Provide technical input on liability claims in excess of the TPAs contractual delegated authority. 

 

Skills

  • Ability to manage external providers to ensure high standards.
  • Strong decision‑making and problem-solving abilities
  • Excellent communication and consultancy skills
  • Ability to work independently and influence at a senior level

 

Knowledge

  • In‑depth knowledge of insurance, claims handling and ULR
  • Understanding of claims legislation and regulatory requirements
  • Professional qualifications (CII, IRM or equivalent) desirable

 

Experience

  • Extensive insurance/ liability claims experience within an insurer or broker in particular within the rail and highways sector. Knowledge of construction and property claims handling desirable. 
  • Experience advising on high value, high profile or complex claims. 
  • Experience with managing ULR claims.
