Overview of role

 

The Senior Programme Manager: Events Operations role is critical to ensuring all Learning & Participation programming is high quality, delivers social impact, drives audience engagement and supports London Transport Museum to ignite curiosity to shape the future.

 

The post holder will be responsible for the operations and compliance of on and off-site programmes, events and activities across the Learning and Participation directorate, supporting the development and delivery of a range of Learning & Participation programmes, for specific audiences and communities. Senior Programme Managers work collaboratively to drive continuous improvement and best practice across the various programmes. 

 

 

Key Accountabilities

 

 

  • Proactively plan, with the Heads of Learning & Participation, the safe and compliant development and delivery of programmes for specific audiences and communities, in line with long-term strategic objectives and received targets aligned to reaching new audiences, delivering social impact, creating high quality visitor experiences and generating income.  This includes adapting plans in response to changing circumstances and developing and managing individual projects and campaigns as necessary
  • Ensure effective relationship building with audiences & communities and existing/potential external partners - including key contacts across TfL - and/or strategic bodies in culture, employability, transport and education to keep the programmes current, appealing, connected to wider agendas, and able to leverage funding
  • Manage the operational development, delivery and evaluation of high-quality outcomes-focused programmes on time and within budget and quality; using evaluation data, sector insights and knowledge of best practice to manage issues, escalate risks and drive continuous improvement in reach, quality, audience relevance and impact and report to funders and other key stakeholders
  • Develop, implement and monitor systems and processes across programmes which enable efficiency, quality and legal compliance and drive continuous improvement i.e. Health & Safety, General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and data management, Safeguarding etc
  • Plan and manage budgets, working closely with London Transport Museum Finance and Heads of Learning & Participation, to ensure programmes are delivered in a realistic and sustainable way in line with strategic objectives and targets
  • Recruit, manage and develop the team in order to ensure employees, freelancers and volunteers are engaged, motivated and committed to delivering high quality programmes
  • Own and make effective the relationship with other key internal stakeholders - particularly Marketing and Development, Digital, Customer Services, Operations & Resourcing and Curatorial - to ensure that programmes are well promoted externally, visible, valued and integrated with the wider work of the museum
  • Initiate and maintain strong collaborative relationships across our two sites in Covent Garden and the Museum Depot at Acton and with other Museum departments and key internal and external stakeholders, to ensure programming and events are aligned, support the Museum's aims and objectives, and reflect and compliment the Museum's collection and exhibition programme while responding to audience needs

 

 

Experience

 

Essential

  • Experience managing the operational delivery of large and/or complex programmes and/or events
  • Experience of conducting and reviewing risk assessments for public events and activities
  • Experience of managing and delivering large and/or complex learning & participation programmes, using data to drive quality and improvement and ensuring the development of experiences which support strategic priorities and meet challenging targets
  • Experience of leading and managing teams
  • Experience of setting and managing budgets, resources and teams to meet challenging strategic targets and deadlines with high levels of visibility
  • Experience of working with partner organisations to drive engagement with audiences
  • Experience managing stakeholder relationships with clients, funders, partners, local authorities or equivalent

 

Desirable

  • Experience of consultation and coproduction, with young people, community partners or other audiences
