Overview of the Role

London Transport Museum (LTM) is the world’s leading museum of urban transport. We ignite curiosity to shape the future, preserving history, inspiring learning, and exploring the stories of the people who make London move.

We are now seeking a Senior Insight & Evaluation Manager (maternity cover) to lead the Museum’s Insight & Impact function during a key period of strategic delivery.

You will oversee and deliver our organisation‑wide insight and impact strategy, ensuring data and evidence drive decision‑making across major projects and programmes.

This role is the Museum’s senior research specialist and sits within the Audiences & Development directorate, working closely with colleagues in Communications and External Affairs, Marketing, Learning, Development, and senior leadership.

 

Key Accountabilities

  • Lead delivery of the Museum’s insight and impact strategy, using data and evidence to shape strategic and operational decisions
  • Provide leadership for all research and evaluation activity, including the Museum’s annual visitor research and major programme evaluations
  • Inherit and drive forward two major programmes:
    • Total market survey and audience segmentation development (large-scale market survey, agency direction, internal engagement)
    • Procurement of a long-term market and customer research partner and management of core customer and social impact insight contracts
  • Line manage the Insight & Evaluation Manager and matrix-manage contractors and Young Freelancers to deliver robust research and evaluation work
  • Lead the Museum’s theory of change approach, ensuring audience outcomes underpin programme design and assessment
  • Support teams across the Museum to embed high-quality evaluation practice, consultation and evidence use
  • Produce high-quality reports and insights for internal and external stakeholders, including leadership teams, funders and sponsors
  • Ensure data governance, GDPR compliance and best practice in data collection and storage
  • Manage research budgets (approx. £80k, plus commissioning up to £200k)

 

Skills, Knowledge & Experience (Essential)

  • Demonstrable knowledge of best practice in research, evaluation and impact assessment
  • Strong quantitative and qualitative analysis capability
  • Experience designing, managing and delivering a range of research and evaluation projects
  • Experience communicating data to non‑specialists and applying insights to strategic decisions
  • Highly effective relationship‑building and stakeholder management skills
  • Strong organisational skills, able to manage a complex portfolio with consistency and strategic focus
  • Working knowledge of project management methodologies
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presenting confidently to senior audiences
  • Strong understanding of information governance, data protection and confidentiality requirements
  • Experience developing evaluation frameworks, tools and databases

 

Desirable

  • Line management or team leadership experience
  • Experience managing agencies, consultants or research partners
