This is a safety critical role so you will need to get clearance from our Occupational Health team before you start.

 

Overview of project/role
London Trams is a business unit within London Surface responsible for procuring the safe and efficient operation of London's tramways, as well as the strategic development of improvements to the tramway network and the delivery of new tramway projects.
 
London Trams (LT) is the business unit within London Rail responsible for the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of LT network. The LT network in Croydon currently extends to 28km of rail with 35 Trams and annual ridership of circa 31m.
 
The OHLE Technicians are responsible for ensuring that the Overhead Line Electrification infrastructure and associated equipment is maintained within established tolerance levels through the systematic inspection and maintenance (planned and preventative) of the assets and documentation of inspections and maintenance.

 

Key Accountabilities 
Including but not limited to:

  • Ensure that all inspection, maintenance, faulting and upgrade works are undertaken to a high standard in line with the defined standards and best practice, and within specified timescales.
  • Responsible for the safety of own work, worksite, personal safety and that of other team members and associated personnel.
  • Undertake other duties such as Lookout / Watchperson, Worksite Supervisor, Possession Supervisor and Authorised Person.
  • Work with the Maximo Asset management System to receive work orders, generate completed work returns, record resource (people, materials and equipment) levels and utilization.
  • Undertake Inspection, Maintenance and Repair of the London Trams OHLE  to ensure that the asset condition is supportive of a safe, reliable and efficient service to passengers.
  • Operate relevant mechanical plant and equipment as required.
  • Working with the stores team for stock level monitoring. 
  • Assisting the OHLE Supervisor with preparing maintenance and possession paper work.  
  • Inform the OHLE Manager and Principal Supervisor, utilizing Maximo, of deficiencies or deterioration in asset condition along with proposed remediation and timescales such that suitable intervention or renewal can be scheduled within budget.
  • Provide support to the OHLE Engineer.
  • Supervise external resource as required where provided to supplement the team during times of shortage or where work and upgrade activities require additional people.
  • Participate in 1st. line On-Call duties as specified.
  • Provide shift reports if OHLE Supervisor is not present on shift.

Skills

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of the ROGS regulations and their application to the tramway (Desirable)
  • Knowledge of safe working and the HASAWA (Desirable)
  • Knowledge of the principles of tramway / railway safety (Desirable)
  • Knowledge of OHLE (Essential)
  • HNC or higher in Electrical & Mechanical  Engineering or similar (Desirable)
  • Knowledge of system / electrical tools and equipment, construction, inspection, and maintenance techniques (Desirable)

Experience

  • Demonstrable experience in a similar role to include OLEC 1 and 2
  • Experienced in the maintenance of records and maintenance of an audit trail
  • Use of Microsoft Office standard packages
  • Use of SAP or similar systems (Desirable)
  • Use of electronic asset management and collaborative working systems is desirable
  • Proven experience of working in the OHL environment
  • Experienced in Electrical Permit to Work systems and their application to High Voltage systems(Desirable)
