Join us in the Vehicles Engineering team as a Senior Engineer where we provide the technical authority and leadership for maintaining legacy assets, as well as delivering new systems and solutions across all modes within TfL, from trains to trams and buses.


We have an opportunity for a role within Technical Services, Non-Destructive Test (NDT) Team for experienced NDT Engineers. These are permanent positions providing opportunities for you to apply your knowledge and experience and to provide support and guidance to all TfL Modes, ensuring they can keep their assets safe and in service.


Your role will be fulfilling a delivery assignment split between providing frontline testing on the assets as well as being a technical expert in Non-Destructive Testing, that other engineers will come to for advice and solutions.  As a Senior Engineer you will be expected to coach and mentor junior engineers and apprentices to help ensure our overall team Skills, Knowledge and Experience capability is aligned with our future demand. 


Day to day your focus will be on delivering engineering activities that deliver NDT services that will keep vital assets safe and in service, as well as keeping projects moving. You will be involved in undertaking these tasks directly, and you need to demonstrate a deep understanding of how they are done so that you can provide trusted engineering advice for everyone that comes to you, including our Heads of Engineering Delivery.


The role requires the following knowledge and experience:
•    Currently holds 4 or more level 2 PCN certification or equivalent (must hold MPI, DPI, EC).
•    Hold a degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
•    Competent to perform NDT according to NDT procedures and standards
•    Interpret and evaluate results according to applicable standards, codes, specifications or procedures
•    Flexible working including working across all TfL sites within the London area
•    Ability to translate NDT codes, standards, specifications and procedures into NDT instructions adapted to the actual working conditions
