The Accounts Assistant (Journals and Intercompany Specialist) will work as part of the Record to Account team to record and deliver period end financial information. The role holder will be responsible for preparing standing manual journals, posting journal entries and producing accurate and timely periodic financial balance sheet reconciliations. The role holder is responsible for delivering within agreed timescales, for resolution of associated accounting issues and for compliance with the company’s policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
- Process all manual journals including preparing standing manual journals, in order to ensure all journal requests are logged and addressed promptly in accordance with the agreed turnaround time or escalated as appropriate
- Validate all manual journals against the journal policy, and confirm journals are included in the appropriate accounting period and check for internal consistency, completeness, and arithmetic accuracy
- Validate intercompany journals against intercompany agreements in order to ensure only journals with agreements get posted
- Produce appropriate working papers and supporting documentation to deliver periodic balance sheet account reconciliations/returns and identify issues which are escalated.
- Prepare periodic intercompany reconciliations in order to resolve or escalate any issues/irregularities with the intercompany transactions as appropriate
- Communicate any issues with manual journal request errors, procedures and policy violations and discrepancies where necessary to the manager
- Pre-populating data and corporate assumptions for budgets/forecasts into the planning system in coordination with the business partners embedded in business to ensure accuracy
- Cascade communications to the budget stakeholders on locking the budget variant in the system to ensure they are kept aware of version control
- Monitor the stage of completion of budgets/preparation of forecasts within the system in line with the timetable
- Comply with applicable corporate policies, internal controls and procedures to ensure accurate financial accounting/reporting
- Work with other areas of the business to communicate and resolve issues in a timely manner by building relationships with teams within finance and wider business.
Skills, Knowledge and Experience:
Knowledge:
- Knowledge of accounting entries, principles and standards
- Knowledge of processes and best practices in general ledger close process areas.
- Knowledge and understanding of how finance teams operate within a shared service delivery function
- Knowledge of modern Finance/ERP systems preferably SAP
- Accounting qualification desirable
Skills:
- Accounting and financial analysis
- Attention to detail
- Ability to learn and use new financial tools and reporting systems
- Ability to communicate to finance and non-finance stakeholders
Experience:
- Experience working in a multifaceted environment dealing with multiple stakeholders
- Experience working in a shared services environment (desirable)
- Experience with accounting entries and reconciliations
- Experience using ERP systems, SAP experience desirable
- Experience manipulating and using complex spreadsheets
- Experience working in a multifaceted environment dealing with multiple stakeholders
