Job Purpose
The Credit Controller (Collections Specialist) will deliver credit management and collection activities to minimise TfL's risk of bad debt and to drive prompt and efficient collection to support cash flow. This will involve running customer credit checks and monitoring them accordingly, pursuing the collection of overdue debt and managing escalations as required and supporting and administering debt provision and write-off, as required. The Specialist will also support the management of billing tools and systems and oversee any exception billing activity. They are expected to deliver against Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) while maintaining a cost efficient service
Key Accountabilities
- Run credit checks on new customers, analysing available information against credit policy and recommending a trading limit accordingly. As required by policy guidelines, will continue to monitor credit ratings of existing customers as required to regularly assess trading limit
- Oversee the dunning process and manage collection of overdue debt across all TfL business areas including contacting external customers and liaising with the business, General Counsel or third-party collection agencies as needed
- Support junior members of team in delivering exception billing activity (e.g. raising exception invoices or generating adjustments) by providing guidance as required
- Deliver against defined KPIs
- Remain up to date and comply with relevant policies, controls, thresholds and guides, adopting a risk-based approach to activities
- Provide input into continuous improvement initiatives to support a more efficient and cost effective service
- Addressing external customer and business / Finance queries as required
- Act as a point of escalation for junior members of team and if required ensure appropriate escalation of issues and risks to the Collection & Cash Manager
- Prepare and run other Accounts receivable related reports from TfL business areas
Knowledge:
- Excellent knowledge of how the processes they will be responsible for should be delivered and how these fit in with the wider Order to Cash process as well as dependencies on other Finance and business processes
- Working knowledge of SAP system
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office software
- Understanding of accounting principles
Skills:
- Interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to guide / train junior members of team or wider business as required
- Ability to support continuous improvement initiatives
Experience:
- Experience delivering credit management and collection activity
- Experience in dealing with a debt dispute and understanding how to provide support
- Experience working in a business services environment
- Experience in supporting continuous improvement initiatives
- Experience in dealing with third parties
- Experience in chasing debt for a high volume of customers
