Day-to-day, your focus will be on delivering designs, drawings, information, calculations and enhancements that keep vital, innovative and big-budget projects moving. You’ll make sure assets are safe, working and compliant; develop your own solutions; and be a trusted source of engineering advice for everyone, including our Heads of Engineering Delivery.

As a Principal Engineer within the Fire Safety Engineering team, you will provide technical and strategic direction on fire safety within TfL.  You will need to be a clear communicator as the role involves stakeholder consultation.  You will also have accountability for fire safety and helping drive the strategic development of our people and standards to meet the needs of the wider TfL business. 

You should be a member of an appropriate professional institution (e.g. IFE, CIBSE etc.) and a Chartered Engineer (or recognised international equivalent) having expert knowledge of fire safety engineering, along with a broad knowledge of other building services disciplines and H&S considerations within the transport industry. You should have expert understanding of relevant fire safety legislation, national and international standards, as well as be able to make safety or high-risk network wide responsible engineering decisions for fire assets and manage senior stakeholders in this area. 

Accompanying this you will bring extensive knowledge of fire safety engineering application in several stages of the asset life cycle akin to the golden thread, allied with the ability to complete assessments of fire systems of varying complexity within a transport environment and be able to translate this technical knowledge in support of an operational business.
