This role will require unsocial hours and weekend working to gain access to the assets, especially during the testing and commissioning of new assets.

Working in the Vehicles Engineering Technical Services team you will apply extensive expertise in the field of engineering which is deployed in the review and resolution of highly complex or network-wide technical problems - providing functional and technical leadership, advice and expertise to staff, internal and external stakeholders, interpreting technical strategy and company policy to satisfy business requirements.
Day to day your role will be supporting engineering activities that include delivering maintenance, enhancements, engineering solutions, root cause analyses, information, and testing that keep vital, innovative and big-budget projects moving as well as supporting the operational railways.
You’ll work within a team of highly professional engineers make sure our vehicle assets are safe, working and compliant, developing your own solutions with guidance from your experienced peers; and you’ll become a trusted source of engineering advice for everyone that comes to you, including our Heads of Engineering Delivery.
You will need to understand how railway operations and train/asset testing operate within a system of systems and be able to understand complex issues and be able to communicate this to a wide range of stakeholders within the overall TfL structure. You will be expected to continue to develop your expertise within the team and share your knowledge with other engineers to aid their development and support the team.

Skills

Knowledge
- Sustained record of continuing professional development and contribution to the knowledge base of the profession
- Extensive experience in Rolling Stock/Vehicle engineering across multiple vehicle types
- Good commercial awareness of developments in Rolling Stock/Public Transport Vehicles, processes and assurance best practices.
- Good knowledge of relevant TfL, British and International Standards.
- Detailed working knowledge of the TfL business, its obligations and priorities.
- Thorough knowledge of engineering safety management and its application within the railway/transport system environment
- Detailed knowledge of data acquisition and analysis techniques in relation to Rolling Stock/vehicle test and monitoring
Experience
- Extensive experience of Rolling Stock/Vehicle Testing and its practical application to high value programmes
- Extensive experience of the London Underground operations and maintenance and the application of Testing within the operational environment.
- Extensive experience of personal responsibility for providing professional engineering support to major projects and maintenance organisation(s), where there are complex interfaces
- Hold or the ability to obtain London Underground Protection of Workers on the Track and Test Track Master Licences
- Ability to interpret and present findings in a clear, concise manner (including the creation and use of tables, charts and graphics to summarise results) and to convey outputs from complex data models in a way that can be clearly understood by non-technical audiences
- Ability to learn and apply advanced data capture and analysis methodologies
