Vegetation & Fencing Works Controller West Zone.
Salary: From £69,725 Grade: OMQ2
Contract type: London Underground - Permanent
Shifts: Monday – Friday (Days) but evenings & weekends cover to suit business requirements. (Not hybrid)

Job Purpose
Manage internal and contract resource to undertake works to time, budget and quality targets both for the core vegetation, fencing works and the fence line PM5/6 inspections.
Deputise for the zonal vegetation managers and on occasion the Vegetation Delivery. Manage/plan/audit core vegetation/fencing teams and fence line inspectors.
Key Accountabilities
- Lead, develop and manage the team and individuals to drive performance, capability and engagement while growing diversity improvement.
- Contribute towards the development and embedding of continuous improvement in Safety, Performance, Cost, Productivity and Environmental standards.
- Contribute to minimising the whole life cost of the vegetation requirements.
- Continuous Improvement: Identify, deliver, and embed potential areas of improvement in safety, performance, cost, productivity, and environmental standards.
- Conduct briefings, develop presentations, and issue work instructions to staff and managers.
- Work closely with TfL suppliers, ensuring an appropriate knowledge transfer occur to provide an effective service Manager.
Skills, Knowledge & Experience
Knowledge
- Working knowledge of engineering and railway rules, regulations, and legislation (Essential)
- Working knowledge of vegetation, fencing management and invasive species (Essential)
- Experience in scoping/surveying Fencing projects & repairs (Essential).
- Experience in scoping/surveying Vegetation/Tree removal projects. (Essential).
- Hold or working towards herbicide application licenses PA1/PA6 (Essential)
- Good knowledge of Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook (Essential)
- Working knowledge of Health and Safety rules, regulations, and legislation in the railway environment (Essential), IOSH trained (Desirable). Successful candidate will be expected to complete IOSH, and any other training required for the role.
- Knowledge of continuous improvement best practice (Desirable)
- Working knowledge and experience of Railsys (Desirable) Experience with Maximo (Desirable) (Successful candidate will be expected to complete training courses).
- Working knowledge and experience in carrying out on-site audits and inspections (PGI’s) (Essential)

Experience
- Proven experience of working in the track environment (Essential)
- Experience of working on vegetation & Fencing control activities (Essential)
- Experience of scoping/surveying for Fence Repairs/Renewals.
- Leadership and management experience of managing performance (LU / TfL and Agency teams) in an operational, people intensive environment (Desirable)
Additional Information
- This role may require both day/night and unsociable hours working during the year.
- Due to the nature of this role, there is a requirement to complete planned/unplanned General Inspections, scopes & surveys by foot over long and uneven terrain in various weather conditions. LUOH Medical will be required for Safety Critical Duties.
- Could be asked to cover other areas (North/East Zones & Stations & Premises) due to business requirements.
