Overview of project/role
Logistics and Manufacturing (L&M) manages a wide range of activities within Transport for London – including its in-house manufacturing and train overhaul teams, the engineering train, HGV and van fleets, warehousing and track access. We are looking for a key member of the L&M leadership team, responsible for guiding and leading key activities, including Safety, Quality and Compliance, Engineering, Commercial, Finance and Subcontract Support services to ensure robust and continually improving capacity for L&M.
Interfacing with internal and external stakeholders, using a data-driven and planning-led approach deliver improved resource utilisation and ongoing sustainable financial improvement. Co-ordinate and lead on pan Asset Performance Delivery (APD) improvement initiatives as required
Key Accountabilities
- Lead, oversee and inspire a diverse, multidisciplinary team to ensure consistent and compliant delivery of support services for L&M and wider stakeholders;
- Implement monitor & deliver key strategic and local change initiatives in regard to Business Optimisation to define and fully optimise end to end processes & ways of working both for the team, across L&M and within TfL.
- Accountable for developing and maintaining L&M’s management systems and processes needed to ensure consistent service delivery across all areas; ensuring targeted removal of silo working and encouraging shared working and resources.
- Responsible for working closely with L&M leadership team & stakeholders to review existing services and tactically explore opportunities for cost performance optimisation across the value chain, in conjunction with business priorities. Addressing any identified gaps to ensure ongoing delivery of key projects, pending a longer term review of requirements.
- To lead by example ensuring appropriate standards are met for the management of safety, environment and risk, compliance with statutory obligations whilst developing practices and plans to improve safety year on year across the L&M upholding the prevention of all injuries or harm to customers, employees and others as a core company value
- To ensure the disciplines within L&M improve, perform & adopt a data driven approach to improve the overall service to customers; inclusive of understanding current & forecast demand, identifying key trends signifying longer term improvement & also analysing team performance & optimisation to achieve higher performance at a lower cost year on year
- Responsible for ensuring long term strategic approach to Business Optimisation, ensuring clear delivery targets and Key Performance Indicators are in place to drive improvement and track/manage any potential risks to reputation and/or team delivery.

Skills

- Adaptive approach with the ability to independently challenge in the context of being part of a wider team & organisation
- Ability to assess priorities and understand the optimal use of resources to drive industry leading services
Knowledge
- Business degree, relevant professional qualification or equivalent.
- In-depth knowledge of stakeholder engagement tools and techniques in a complex, regulated operations maintenance environment.
- Knowledge of relevant health and safety legislation, guidance and good practice.
- Strong knowledge of relevant procurement; managing contractual and supplier interfaces; legal aspects; financial management and controls
- Knowledge of developing and delivering effective business strategy in the operational context to drive long-term efficiency
Experience
- Experience of leading a diverse business unit containing a variety of disciplines; differing in scope, delivery and complexity
- Experience of the practical application and benefits of optimising businesses and empowering colleagues to identify and resolve complex business issues
- Experience of applying LEAN or similar techniques to drive strategic performance improvements and performance measurement to deliver optimal results
- Strong business focus with commitment to driving performance, reliability and financial efficiency.

As a fixed term contractor we can offer you a choice of pension arrangements.
