Hybrid working within this role enables a balance of 50 per cent of time split between the office and home over a 4-week period. Hybrid working arrangements can evolve subject to business requirements.

 

Job Purpose

London Transport Museum (LTM) is the world's leading museum of urban transport and an award-winning day out. As an education and preservation charity, LTM uses the powerful link between transport and the growth of London, culture and society since 1800 to tell the story of London's journey over the past 200 years. This role will coordinate the training and deployment of Transport Youth Engagement Officers (TYEO) and STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) Ambassadors, across a range of Learning & Participation programmes, ensuring a high-quality, real-world learning experience for participants and delivering rewarding outcomes for the TYEOs and STEM Ambassadors.

 

Key Accountabilities

  • Track and assess the need for TYEOs and STEM Ambassadors across Learning & Participation programmes. Adjust recruitment and resource planning based on upcoming events and programme demands.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with organisations such as TfL, external agencies, and companies within transport and engineering sectors to source skilled TYEOs and STEM Ambassadors.
  • Manage the recruitment of TYEOs and STEM Ambassadors, ensuring candidates have the required skills. Develop and deliver comprehensive training to equip volunteers for supporting Learning & Participation programmes.
  • Act as the key point of contact between volunteers and programme teams, ensuring clear communication and timely delivery of information and resources.
  • Develop and maintain high-quality toolkits, guides, and materials for TYEOs and STEM Ambassadors to effectively support educational activities.
  • Oversee systems for tracking participation, engagement, and learning outcomes. Evaluate programme effectiveness and use data to inform continuous improvement.
  • Compile and analyse data on programme performance. Share insights with stakeholders and prepare reports for funders to demonstrate programme impact.
  • Research developments in STEM education and volunteering. Use insights to ensure programmes remain relevant and innovative, aligned with current standards and industry needs.

 

Skills, Knowledge and Experience

Skills

  • Communication – Strong verbal and written communication skills for effectively conveying information to diverse audiences, including students, educators, volunteers, and stakeholders.
  • Interpersonal skills- The ability to build positive relationships, collaborate with others and motivate volunteers for successful engagement with ambassadors, schools, and community partners.
  • Organisational Skills- Excellent organisational skills are needed to manage multiple tasks, coordinate events and maintain records efficiently.
  • Problem Solving – The capacity to identify challenges, develop creative solutions, adapt to changing circumstances and overcome obstacles in programme implementation.
  • Time Management – The ability to prioritise tasks, meet deadlines and manage tasks effectively. The ability to balance various responsibilities and ensuring the smooth operation of the programme.

 

Knowledge

  • Education/Learning – A solid understanding of education & learning in particular STEM Ambassador subjects (Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) and educational principles necessary for developing engaging activities and resources that align with curriculum standards and learning objectives.
  • Engagement – Knowledge of LTM, educational systems, TfL and outreach strategies to enable building partnerships, identifying target audiences and tailoring activities to meet the needs of our audiences.
  • Evaluation Methods – Familiarity with evaluation methods and tools for assessing programme outcomes, measuring impact and gathering feedback from participants to ensure continuous improvements and accountability.
  • Volunteer sector – An understanding of the volunteering as part of professional development, corporate social responsibility and employee engagement

 

Experience

  • Experience of working in a formal or informal learning setting
  • Experience in recruiting, training, mentoring and coordinating volunteers.
  • Experience in engaging with diverse communities, building partnerships and collaborating with stakeholders.
  • Experience in programme evaluation, data analysis and impact assessment.
  • Experience in resource allocation and time management.
  • Experience in networking, relationship building and partnership development with stakeholders, sponsors and funders.
