Transport for London (TfL) Engineers are always looking forward. Join us in one of our Civil Engineering teams and, as well as maintaining legacy assets, you’ll deliver new systems and solutions. Day to day, you’ll be primarily site based, supporting the safe and compliant delivery of civil engineering works. You’ll work closely with engineers, inspectors, contractors and designers to make sure construction activities meet approved designs and TfL standards.
You’ll carry out independent technical assurance and inspections of permanent and temporary works, help identify quality issues and non-conformances and support the resolution of engineering and construction challenges as works progress.
Key Accountabilities
You’ll play an important role in supporting construction delivery by:
- Providing civil engineering support to TfL projects and operations, primarily through site-based construction assurance and inspection activities
- Helping safeguard the safety, integrity and performance of civil engineering assets during construction, including permanent and temporary works
- Undertaking independent technical assurance of works to confirm compliance with approved designs, specifications and inspection test plans
- Supporting the review of construction documentation, including temporary works designs, method statements, risk assessments and inspection test plans
- Reporting quality observations, defects and non-conformances clearly and accurately
Knowledge
- A relevant civil engineering qualification or equivalent experience
- Working knowledge of legislation, technical standards, and industry best practice relevant to Construction Engineering delivery
- Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental considerations applicable to Construction Engineering / Temporary Works
- Knowledge temporary works processes and controls
Skills
- Ability to supervise and inspect civil engineering works on site under the direction of a senior engineer
- Ability to independently examine construction activities for the purpose of technical assurance
- Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications and inspection test plans
- Ability to identify quality issues, raise concerns clearly and escalate where needed
- Good written and verbal communication skills, including producing clear site reports
Experience
Essential:
- Experience supporting the independent examination of works for technical assurance under the direction of a senior engineer
- Experience delivering or inspecting reinforced concrete works, including reading reinforcement drawings and inspecting works on site
- Experience delivering or inspecting highways works, including surfacing and waterproofing
- Hold valid CSCS (Construction Skills Certification Scheme) card
Desirable:
- Experience delivering or inspecting structural steelwork
- Experience acting as a Temporary Works Supervisor or Coordinator (TWS/C) or working towards this level
- Working towards IEng or above with the Institution of Civil Engineers (or equivalent)
- Hold PTS (Personal Track Safety) qualification
