The Customer Project Manager is responsible for managing projects across Transport for London to meet the needs of our customers. They have responsibility for overseeing and delivering projects to time, budget, scope and quality, and will optimise project resources including subject matter experts and external suppliers.

 

Key accountabilities

 

  • Plan and manage projects to ensure delivery of intended business benefits.
  • Establish and maintain a good, professional and pro-active working relationship with internal delivery partners and/or Contractors where applicable.
  • Identify and manage any interfaces and dependencies between the assigned project and other ongoing activities/projects.
  • Contribute to preparation and upkeep of project implementation plan, including cost and resource plans.
  • Responsible for the day-to-day management of project governance and reporting, with issues, risks and decisions escalated through the agreed governance arrangements.
  • Responsible for influencing and negotiating to gain support across range of internal/external stakeholders
  • Responsible for compliance with relevant health and safety legislation and contributing to the TfL Health and Safety culture, resolving arising issues or escalating as appropriate and ensuring safe delivery
  • Responsible for providing effective performance and development management responsibilities for any direct reports

 

Skills

 

  • Skilled problem solver with proven ability to resolve complex issues with skill and judgment, and ability to think clearly under pressure.
  • Good at managing workload of self & reports and flexing approach to meet objectives
  • Proven ability to build working relationships with colleagues and external stakeholders
  • Ability to influence key decision-makers, negotiating and successfully facilitating joint decision-making
  • Applies business/commercial acumen with the ability to control project costs and manage risk
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills

 

Knowledge

 

  • Good knowledge and understanding of project and programme management methodologies and processes and their practical application in a transport setting (essential)
  • Good knowledge and understanding of project control tools and techniques (essential)
  • Good knowledge and understanding of project budgeting, procurement processes and contract management (essential)
  • Professional Qualification in Project Management, such as Association for Project Management or PRINCE2 (desirable)
  • Degree or equivalent qualification (desirable)

 

Experience

 

  • Experience of working in a complex, multi-disciplinary, matrix-managed environments.
  • Proven record of taking personal responsibility and accountability for delivery of high-value projects ,in a large, complex organisation where there are multiple interfaces, and delivering to time, budget and quality.

    Hybrid working within this role enables a balance of 50 per cent of time split between the office and home over a 4 week period. Hybrid working arrangements can evolve subject to business requirements.
