Hybrid working within this role enables a balance of 50 per cent of time split between the office and home over a 4-week period. Hybrid working arrangements can evolve subject to business requirements.
Overview of the role
Transport for London (TfL) manage more than 1800 highway structures on their strategic highway network including bridges, retaining walls, road tunnels, bus station infrastructure and 9 marine piers across London. The Surface and Highway Structures (S&HS) Team is based in the TfL Engineering Directorate and provides trusted support and advice to highway and marine related teams in the organisation about structures assets. This support is a critical part of ensuring that TfL builds and maintains safe, functional and compliant structures assets and that existing structures are not adversely impacted by other internal or external works.
TfL is currently looking for a Band 3 (B3) Engineer to join this established team. A technical expert in your field of highway or marine structures, you will be required to provide technical assurance for structures assets and support colleagues across TfL in a wide variety of challenges and projects. You will be comfortable liaising and working collaboratively with TfL colleagues, framework contractors, third party developers and external stakeholders, in providing technical assurance and pragmatic asset management advice getting the best outcomes for the organisation.
Skills, knowledge and experience
You will be educated to a minimum of Degree level or be able to demonstrate equivalent structural experience and competence in the highway and/or marine structures environment. You will ideally be a technician or graduate member working towards Chartered or Incorporated Membership of the Institution of Civil Engineers or other relevant internationally recognised institution. You will understand national technical standards, legislation, health, safety and environmental considerations, sustainability, design, construction, operation, inspection, maintenance, assessment, and industry best practices related to highway and/or marine structures. You will be able to provide technical advice about highway structures and/or marine assets, to support colleagues in operations, strategy, asset and risk management and for projects related to transport structures.
