Job Purpose:

 

Responsible for managing and delivering the design, development, and implementation of Finance systems software across the full development lifecycle. The role acts as a critical bridge between business requirements and technical delivery, ensuring Finance systems solutions meet functional, architectural, and governance standards.

The role supports finance data cleansing activities using outputs from Signavio insights and plays a vital role throughout the readiness and implementation phases of SAP S/4HANA. Its purpose is to ensure Finance data is standardised, high quality, and fit for purpose, minimising rework, reducing data storage costs, and preventing reporting inaccuracies.

As a specialist developer, the role holder provides deep technical expertise in Finance systems and SAP-based solutions, ensuring that newly developed routines, applications, and reports meet TfL quality standards and stakeholder expectations.


Key Responsibilities:

 

Solution Design & Development

  • Lead the design, development, and implementation of Finance systems software across agreed programmes and projects.
  • Design and develop reports and financial models using SAP BPC and SAP Analytics Cloud, ensuring full alignment with Financial and Accounting requirements.
  • Design and develop applications, configuration code, databases, interfaces, and integrations, including multi-source data feeds and content management systems.
  • Ensure solutions are high-performing, scalable, maintainable, and secure, adhering to TfL technology and architecture standards.

SAP & Finance Systems Leadership

  • Provide strategic technical leadership into SAP development initiatives, special investigations, and Finance system change activities.
  • Actively contribute to architecture, design, and change governance boards, ensuring compliance with agreed standards and best practices.
  • Ensure new and enhanced Finance systems support data quality, controls, and end-to-end Finance processes, particularly in the context of S/4HANA.

Stakeholder & Supplier Management

  • Manage stakeholders at all levels of the organisation, advising on systems requirements, constraints, design decisions, and best practice.
  • Work collaboratively with internal teams and third‑party suppliers to deliver solutions to agreed scope, quality, budget, and timelines.
  • Ensure consistent application of development standards, guidelines, and working practices, contributing to their ongoing evolution where required.

Data Quality & Continuous Improvement

  • Support Finance data cleansing initiatives using Signavio insights and other data quality assessments.
  • Drive continuous improvement, contributing to the definition and tracking of key performance indicators to improve system quality, controls, and service outcomes.
  • Support peers and wider teams in strengthening data integrity, automation, and Finance systems control frameworks.

Documentation & Supportability

  • Produce and maintain high-quality technical and functional documentation to ensure systems are maintainable, supportable, and reusable by future development teams.
  • Ensure delivered solutions are support-ready and aligned to operational and service transition standards.

Knowledge:

 

  • Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related discipline (or equivalent practical experience)
  • In-depth knowledge of systems development lifecycles, including dependencies with operational and business systems
  • Strong understanding of financial accounting, finance operations, and end-to-end Finance processes
  • Excellent ability to learn, configure, develop, and optimise new systems
  • Advanced knowledge of financial systems development and configuration, with the ability to interpret and develop financial information
  • Strong SAP knowledge essential, including SAP BPC and SAP Analytics Cloud

Experience:

 

  • Extensive experience developing SAP, SAP BPC, and SAP Analytics Cloud solutions in multi-vendor environments
  • Proven delivery of Finance systems solutions under significant time and cost pressures
  • Strong experience producing clear, structured, and reusable documentation suitable for long-term system support and enhancement
  • Demonstrated ability to incrementally deliver high-quality, fit-for-purpose solutions to specification and budget

Hybrid working within this role enables a balance of 50 per cent of time split between the office and home over a 4 week period. Hybrid working arrangements can evolve subject to business requirements.
