Internal Engagement and Communications Manager - GLA Group Collaboration

Job Type: 12 - month Secondment Opportunity (with potential for permanency) or Fixed Term Contract opportunity (with potential for permanency) 

Location: Based at TfL’s Palestra building in Southwark, London SE1 with travel across London and hybrid working (typically offering 2-3 days a week remote working). 

Salary: Circa £60,000 p.a. dependent on skills and experience

We now have a fantastic opportunity for a GLA Group Collaboration Internal Engagement and Communications Manager. It’s a far-reaching role that goes beyond one team or organisation to a wide and varied group, and beyond one topic to a range of disciplines and subject matter.

About the role 

This role is responsible for Group Collaboration Team and Portfolio engagement and communications, in order to accelerate collaboration and the realisation of our vision – the GLA Group and its key partners working as one to deliver maximum benefit for London, and to augment the strategic impact of collaboration projects and other collaborative initiatives and activities. 

The Internal Engagement and Communications Manager is responsible for leading the continual development and delivery of the portfolio’s engagement and communication strategy and plan, increasing collaboration and impact by:

  • raising awareness and understanding
  • generating and maintaining advocacy 
  • eliciting action
  • garnering ideas and new opportunities 

 

Key Accountabilities 

  • Coordinate and drive continual development of the GLA Group Collaboration Internal Engagement and Communication strategy and plan with delivery partners and stakeholders from across the GLA Group’s organisations, to deliver transformational change 
  • Build strong productive relationships with internal communications professionals across the GLA Group’s organisations, to share expertise, align approach, and facilitate delivery of the portfolio’s strategy and plan
  • Lead the co-creation of a clear shared forward plan of communications and engagement aligned with organisations’ own internal comms and corporate plans, to ensure timely and impactful activity
  • Maintain the portfolio’s narrative and other core products to serve as the foundation for all engagement and communications
  • Manage continual development and delivery of internal brand, including visual, editorial, and tone-of-voice, to create and maintain a strong and coherent internal identity for Collaboration across the GLA Group
  • Support the Portfolio Lead and Senior GLA Group Collaboration Portfolio Manager, working with the Collaboration Team’s senior management team, in developing and delivering engagement and communication activity in response to the Portfolio’s needs
  • Manage existing – and as required develop new - engagement and communication channels and products in line with industry best practice, including, but not limited to senior stakeholder news updates and events, impact report, and online hub
  • Work with Collaboration colleagues to ensure alignment with the approach and milestones of projects and other Collaboration activity
  • Deliver, oversee, and/or facilitate others in delivering the design, planning and implementation of engagement and communications campaigns and activities, including events
  • Track, measure and evaluate communication activity to ensure efficacy of strategy, approach, and individual campaigns in achieving Portfolio outcomes

  • Proven ability to plan and deliver a compelling internal engagement and communications strategy in a complex and ambiguous environment and successfully define and measure its success (essential)
  • Experienced stakeholder manager who can identify, engage, influence and manage relationships to deliver through others (essential)
  • Self-starter able to work with pace and autonomy with a focus on delivering positive outcomes (essential)
  • Highly organised with structured and tenacious approach to delivery (essential)
  • Exceptional attention to detail and first-rate cogent and concise written and verbal communications (essential)
  • Well-developed emotional intelligence: able to understand, use, and manage emotions in a positive way to relieve stress, communicate effectively, empathize with others, overcome challenges (essential)
  • Knowledge of the Mayor’s priorities for London and for collaboration across the Group, as well as strategic understanding of the organisations that make up the GLA Group and their roles across London (desirable)
  • Experience of managing suppliers and contractors, assuring quality, and ensuring value for money (desirable)

If you are successful in securing this secondment opportunity, you will need to be released from your existing role and able to take up the role so please ensure you make your line manager aware of your application. 

 

Fixed term contract/Secondment opportunity

As a fixed term contractor we can offer you a choice of pension arrangements. If you choose not to take our final salary pension scheme you will be paid an allowance on top of your salary, subject to Tax and National Insurance. We will share all the details with you at offer stage and the choice will be yours based on your circumstances. Depending on what you choose you can add up-to 14% to your salary.
