*Hybrid working within this role enables a balance of 50 per cent of time split between the office and home over a 4-week period. Hybrid working arrangements can evolve subject to business requirements.

 

Overview of project/role

 

This role exists to support the setting of Safety strategy and vision setting activities for TfL (themes include Road Risk, Public Transport Safety and Colleague Safety), taking the lead on small workstreams within this. It will do this using robust data and insight, including risk modelling information, to identify priorities and action plans to drive consistently improving safety performance.

 

Key Accountabilities

 

  • Support the vision, strategy and priority setting for elements of Safety across TfL, including target setting. Manage elements of this, including running workshops, writing up outputs and drafting plans.
  • Support the setting of safety policy. Draft policy documents. Make sure the SHE management systems reflects correct versions.
  • Assist with the development of robust evidence bases to support interventions to deliver the vision by assessing feasibility and brainstorming ideas. Liaise with the Data & Insight team to ensure these are robust and sustainable.
  • Support delivery planning of interventions to establish clear action plans to move the organisation towards the vision. Write up outputs and draft plans to bring interventions together. Liaise with SMEs to establish indicative timescales and feasibility
  • Support trials to identify new ways of driving improved performance, working with third parties as needed to drive this. Lead on elements of larger trial or whole smaller trials as appropriate
  • Support the development of frameworks and measures to monitor performance. Support target setting and monitoring, highlighting and reporting challenging where targets are missed.
  • Be a champion and advocate for safety, health & environment in everything they do, role modelling what it means to make SHE personal

Knowledge

  • Understanding of Mayor's Transport Strategy and TfL's business priorities
  • Some knowledge of how to form strategy and progress it into action in a complex organisation
  • Some understanding of the political framework in which TfL operates
  • Some knowledge of TfL’s SHE Management system
  • Some understanding of engineering, operational and business management requirements in a safety critical environment

 

Skills

  • Good collaboration skills, including working across organisational boundaries
  • Ability to understand performance data and trends and translate this into priorities
  • Ability to work in a highly pressurised environment to very tight time constraints and high quality
  • Good written, verbal and presentation skills, with a proven ability to write strategic and analytical reports

 

Experience

 

  • Experience of setting visions and ambitions in large complex organisations
