Overview of role

 

Supporting Asset Performance and Delivery as a Senior Finance Business Partner, to deliver strategic financial management of all civils and building & fabric assets in London Underground. Built Environment delivers capital renewal projects (£100m investment plan, with £30m in 2025/26), and maintenance services (£130m opex in 2025/26) delivered through a combination of in-house delivery and contracted out services.

 

The Senior Finance Business Partner is a trusted and influential member of the Senior Management Team, shaping strategic and operational decision making by providing insight, challenge and advice. Responsible for delivering financial services that meet the business needs and are delivered in an accurate and timely way, and reporting on performance, risk and efficiencies.

 

Key Accountabilities

 

 

  • Leads and develops effective business partner relationships with the client directorate at all levels.
  • Ensures that Senior Managers have an integrated view of financial performance, with early warning on significant changes in expected performance/costs/income along with clear corrective actions
  • Manages preparation of the business plan, budget and the maintenance of the forecast and with focus on associated risk and opportunities
  • Formulate plans to maximise financial and business performance (including maximising revenue and efficiencies delivery) through the provision of high quality performance information and effective business partnering and stakeholder engagement
  • Supports and challenges Sponsors, Directors and Senior Managers using investment and project appraisal techniques and models to support effective decision making on project and investments proposals
  • Ensures the validity of all information with a financial consequence originating from the partner business function; from the underlying accounting transactions captured in Business Services Function to information presented to internal boards and committees or into the public domain
  • Accountable for ensuring full financial control and management is in place, including working capital management, although the majority of these processes and controls will be completed in the Business Services Function
  • Manages the capability and drives the development of the Finance Business Partnering team and assist in developing training for non-finance managers and budget holders to improve commercial and financial skills
  • To provide inspirational leadership to achieve behavioural changes and to create a "can do" culture across the directorate.

 

Knowledge

 

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent
  • Numerate and experience and understanding of Finance and accounting
  • Qualified CCAB (Desirable)
  • Experience of building strong relationships and managing complex stakeholder relationships across the business. Confident in and having the gravitas to partner with the business as a credible finance professional
  • Experience of building on and leveraging resources/networks across the business to achieve business objectives
  • Demonstrable working knowledge of investment appraisal tools and methodologies and their application to a complex range of activities

Experience

 

  • Must have demonstrable experience of managing and developing finance services
  • Experience in managing delivery of key management accounting services to time, budget and quality
  • Extensive experience in challenging and collaborating with senior stakeholders across a broad range of disciplines
  • Experience of integrated ERP accounting platforms (SAP) and able to develop data strategies to enable effective reporting, planning and financial management and control
  • Demonstrable experience of driving significant value out of efficiencies and leading on savings programmes which may be outside of their span of control
