Overview
The Senior SHE Systems and Safety Improvement Manager is responsible for ensuring that Transport for London (TfL) can meet its strategic goals and legal obligations by developing, maintaining and continuously improving the systems and processes that enable effective health, safety and environment (SHE) risk management across the organisation.
The role ensures that SHE systems are modern, integrated and aligned to organisational priorities, enabling TfL to operate safely, protect customers and staff, safeguard its reputation and achieve its scorecard outcomes.
This position provides senior leadership and direction to multiple specialist teams and drives a unified, systemic approach to SHE management, compliance and continuous improvement
Key Accountabilities
• Lead and modernise TfL’s SHE systems to ensure integration, compliance and continuous improvement.
• Provide senior leadership to SHE teams and drive high performance across all functions.
• Own the organisation wide SHE Management System and deliver strategic insight to senior stakeholders.
• Oversee the London Underground rulebook and align it with assurance and competence processes.
• Lead SHE assurance, reporting and investigations, ensuring lessons are embedded and regulatory requirements are met.
• Manage SHE training delivery, a £2m budget and a team of approx. 30 professionals.
• Reduce organisational safety, financial and reputational risk.
Skills, Knowledge & Experience
Knowledge
• SHE Management Systems, transport/rail standards, regulatory frameworks.
• Safety critical operations, incident investigation, assurance and continuous improvement.
• Experience of sponsoring the development of systems/tech projects
Skills
• Strong leadership and stakeholder influence.
• Effective collaboration, communication and change delivery capabilities.
• Ability to integrate systems and simplify complex requirements.
Experience
• Senior management leadership.
• Delivering and maintaining SHE systems in large organisations.
• IT/process change sponsorship and operational risk/assurance leadership.
