This position begins with a one year, office-based training programme. During this initial period, hybrid working arrangements are not available to ensure full support and hands-on learning. We are recruiting for three positions across the Timetables Team and the Schedules Team.
With around 4 million passenger journeys made every day, developing accurate and reliable service plans is essential to keeping London moving. Our Timetables and Duty Schedules teams play a vital role in making this happen, designing the train service and the staff duties that deliver a safe, efficient, and dependable Underground service.
We are looking for motivated, detail‑oriented individuals to join us as Timetables Compilers or Duty Schedule Compilers. You’ll bring a passion for public transport and a proactive approach to your work, applying the same commitment to quality whether you are designing train service plans or developing duty schedules. Comfortable working both independently and as part of a team, you’ll thrive in a deadline‑driven environment and be able to manage competing priorities effectively. The ideal candidate will possess strong problem‑solving skills and be confident in engaging with a wide range of stakeholders. Your attention to detail, analytical mindset and focus on accuracy will ensure that outputs are delivered on time, fully compliant with operational standards, and ready to support the safe and reliable operation of the network.
Across both teams, you’ll play a meaningful role in shaping the service that millions of customers rely on every day.
Overview of project/role
The Timetables Team is responsible for designing and compiling train timetables and service plans for all lines across the Tube network. This includes arranging the publication and production of associated planning products and working closely with Operations and key business stakeholders to ensure that all outputs are accurate, achievable and delivered to the required standards.
The Schedules Team is responsible for the compilation of Train Staff and Stations Staff duty schedules and rotas, as well as providing scheduling support for a wide range of stakeholders across TfL. In addition to producing high‑quality scheduling outputs, the role involves close consultation with Trade Unions and key operational stakeholders to ensure that proposed duties are safe, compliant, and aligned with organisational requirements.
In addition, a structured grade progression scheme is in place, offering promotional opportunities to increase your salary as you successfully achieve key milestones. This provides a clear pathway for professional growth and reward as you develop in the role.
