Our Customer Payments team ensures the efficiency and reliability of TfL’s fares payment system (Oyster and Contactless), used for millions of journeys every day.

 

Our work is diverse and is fundamental to TfL’s financial sustainability, it includes:

  • Collecting over £5bn of fares revenue each year
  • Managing, improving, and procuring the Integrated Revenue Collection Contract that underpins the TfL Revenue Collection System
  • Delivering enhancements to the way customers pay for their travel including Oyster, Contactless and future payment services
  • Managing and developing TfL’s concessionary and free travel schemes
  • Advising the Mayor on fares policy
  • Forecasting and monitoring travel demand trends

 

About the Role 

An exciting opportunity to work on one of the most complex and high-profile payments transformations in the world. TfL collects over £5 billion annually through a diverse and technically sophisticated revenue collection system. We have recently signed the new Integrated Revenue Collection Contract (IRCC) and are now embarking on a major transition to the new contract.

 

As a Product Manager – Payments and Revenue Transformation, you will work at pace in a demanding environment to help shape and deliver the transition to the new contract. You will support the Senior Product Manager in establishing the organisation, capabilities and ways of working required for successful delivery, whilst also helping bring together technical, commercial, and operational expertise from across TfL.

 

As part of Technology Strategy and Revenue’s Payments team, you will play a key role in shaping the continuous transformation of TfL’s revenue collection system and services. 

 

Initially, your focus will be on supporting the transition from the existing Revenue Collection Contract (RCC) to the Integrated Revenue Collection Contract (IRCC). Over time, you will help define and delivery broader transformation across the payments portfolio, working closely with commercial, technical, and operational teams.

 

This role is ideal for someone who is a pragmatic problem solver, and effective communicator and a leader who operates with empathy.

 

What we are looking for 

We are seeking a proactive individual with strong delivery and stakeholder engagement skills. 

 

Essential:

Strong critical thinking and structured problem-solving abilities, able to break down complex issues and drive clarity where information is ambiguous.

Skilled in change management, communications, and training activities at scale.

Excellent communication and influencing skills, able to engage technical and non-technical audiences. Able to break down and explain complex concepts clearly. 

Familiarity with governance frameworks and risk management.

Ability to prepare clear, concise programme updates, board papers, and senior leadership briefings.

Strong planning, reporting, and organisation skills, and the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-moving environment

 

Desirable: 

Experience of operating model design and implementation.

Proven complex transformation and change delivery, including driving adoption and embedding change.

Ability to lead small cross-functional teams without direct line authority.

Knowledge of digital payments and/or automatic fare collection technologies.

Interest and awareness of emerging trends and innovation in payments, mobility, and transport technology.
