Our Technology & Data (T&D) team underpins TfL’s operations, combining customer payments, project delivery, technology development, and service operations.

In T&D’s Customer Payments team, our focus is on enabling millions of journeys across London’s transport network every day, ensuring that our customers pay the best price for their travel. Our innovation and ambition have revolutionised travel payments through our Oyster smartcard system and by being the first transport authority to launch contactless payment acceptance. We achieve this by providing world-class, efficient payment solutions within an integrated revenue collection system, ensuring fares revenue is collected safely and reliably across all services (London Underground, Buses, River, Overground, Tramlink, TfL Rail, DLR, Train Operating Companies, and Cable Car).
About the Role
- Working as part of Technology & Data’s Customer Payments team, you will oversee the operation and management of the Revenue Collection Contract and its replacement – the Integrated Revenue Collection Contract.
- Reporting to the Head of Payments Contracts & Agreements, you will:
- Ensure the growing Integrated Revenue Collection ecosystem is maintained and secure, allowing TfL to continue to reliably collect and allocate revenue every day in an efficient, cost-effective manner to deliver best value for the organisation, its partners and its customers.
- Oversee the delivery of all aspects of the Integrated Revenue Collection Contract, enabling revenue collection and allocation valued at circa £6 billion annually for TfL and the Train Operating Companies around London.
- Be responsible for translating the desired vision, strategy and objectives and obligation of the Integrated Revenue Collection Contract into executable deliverables that align with the Mayor’s Transport Strategy and TfL’s strategic goals.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading a team that assesses holistic performance of the Integrated Revenue Collection Contract to ensure compliance with mandated service performance indicators.
- Managing changes and risks appropriately during the contract’s lifecycle including mobilisation, transition, and exit.
- Assuring that all roles with Delegated Authority are suitably trained, have a clear understanding of the obligations, and are managing these accordingly.
- Establishing and maintaining a programme of Audits to be Assured that the Core System and Services are being managed compliant to the obligations.
- Developing strong governance arrangements to manage the interdependencies impacting the Integrated Revenue Collection Contract.
- Encouraging outstanding performance, innovative solutions and best practices from internal and external stakeholders (T&D Heads of Department, Procurement & Commercial, Support Services, DfT, London Councils, National Rail).
- Fostering the right culture of behaviour with the supply chain to ensure that a “fix first” approach is preserved.
- Curating a bespoke strategy for knowledge sharing and training across the Integrated Revenue
- Collection Contract landscape to embed capability across T&D.
About You
- Proven track record in managing major suppliers for business-critical contracts, ensuring seamless operation, alignment and performance.
- Leadership of a culture of continuous improvement, driving innovation and creating an environment where every team member across the contract is empowered to enhance service delivery.
- Experience in managing high value budgets with a record of delivering cost reduction opportunities.
- Detailed experience of working in a technically complex environment, with the ability to understand and assimilate interdependencies between complex IT and ideally payment systems and contractual principles.
- Strong understanding of project, programme and portfolio management practices with experience in implementing strong governance frameworks in a technical and/or revenue environment.
- Ability to translate strategy into action, reliably delivering value and quality to deadline. You will know how to anticipate and articulate risks and issues with clear prioritisation and consideration of wider business implications.
- Ability to build and maintain constructive relationships with stakeholders and the supply chain to maximise the effectiveness and performance of the contract services
- Confident in managing end-to-end change across inter-connected agreements and systems, balancing strategic priorities to make effective long-term recommendations to the Head of Payments Contracts & Agreements for the benefit of TfL and its customers.
- An inquisitive mindset, comfortable working with a wide array of stakeholders from different disciplines to uncover opportunities to improve contract delivery and efficiencies.
- An ability to make balanced decisions and recommendations to the Head of Payments Contracts & Agreements in the face of conflicting priorities to make effective long-term decisions for the benefit of TfL and its customers.
