About Us:

Transport for London (TfL) stands at the forefront of using data and analytics to optimise transport systems, enhance customer experiences, and influence the future of urban mobility. Aligned with TfL's strategy, our mission is to build a more efficient, inclusive, and sustainable transport network. As a Senior Product Owner in our Data & Analytics team, you'll play a pivotal role in driving our data-focused initiatives and contributing to these transformative goals.

Our Data Products

Imagine the vast data landscape within TfL and the range of data products that could emerge. We're seeking individuals with a knack for data to work on various data products, with an initial emphasis on projects that enable our colleagues across TfL to make more informed decisions throughout the network.

These products span diverse areas:

  • Aggregating performance data from our network to facilitate reporting to our executive committee and address customer concerns proactively.

  • Streamlining our bus data into a shared platform to support bus network planning, maintenance, and performance assessment.

  • Integrating data for Road User Charging (RUC) to report on activity within London's ultra-low emission zone.

About You:

As our Senior Product Owner, you'll steer the development of our data products to align with our strategies and deliver tangible value to the business. Your role involves shaping requirements into a robust backlog, guiding the development team towards consistent, high-quality results.  You'll prioritise features and collaborate across the organisation to achieve successful outcomes.

Agile Expert:  You have a proven track record of navigating Agile Scrum methodologies, effectively managing product backlogs, and delivering projects on time and within budget. You're at ease with Agile metrics and are committed to continuous process enhancement.

Data Proficient:  You possess a strong grasp of data products and their technical intricacies.  By working closely with architects, product specialists, and delivery teams, you bridge the gap between vision and execution.

Collaboration Champion:  You thrive in fostering an environment of teamwork and creativity.  Your excellent interpersonal skills allow you to rally diverse teams, inspire their best efforts, and ensure optimal performance.

Delivery Leader:  Breaking down complex projects into manageable phases is your forte. You guide teams in refining work and establishing clear backlogs, setting achievable objectives that align with TfL's strategic direction.

Problem Solver:  Armed with experience and a collaborative spirit, you excel at overcoming challenges.  You apply lessons learned from the past and collaborate effectively to surmount obstacles.

Key Requirements:

  • Assume ownership over designated systems within the Data and Analytics domain, adhering to Agile principles. This encompasses maintaining the product backlog, defining acceptance criteria, sequencing, and prioritising stories, and ensuring clear developer understanding.
  • Emerge as the product's ambassador and domain expert.
  • Collaborate closely with the development team to prioritise the product backlog in line with business requirements, ensuring valuable releases within approved budgets.
  • Oversee the sequencing and prioritisation of work alongside technical delivery managers and other delivery teams, preventing conflicts in integration points and release schedules.
  • Keep sponsors and partners informed about product development progress.
  • Articulate product features effectively to validate user needs and offer development teams precise comprehension.
