This is a safety critical role so you will need to get clearance from our Occupational Health team before you start.
Overview of project
Elizabeth Line (Crossrail) - will transform travel across the city, boosting the economy by billions of pounds and supporting thousands of new jobs and homes. 5 central section stations, the route way, shafts, portals and surface stations are the responsibility of RfLI and our maintenance teams to facilitate their upkeep and operation.
Overview of Role
The Senior On Track Plant Technician is responsible for the safe planning, coordination and safe operation of plant required for the support of maintenance, renewals and improvement activities.
Plant Technicians form a team of operators that facilitate the safe planned and reactive maintenance work of other disciplined teams maintaining the Elizabeth Line. This is performed by operation of engineering equipment and vehicles including;
- Road and rail mounted machines
- Access equipment to perform work at height,
- Vacuum and high-pressure jetting machines
- Crane operation for loading and unloading trains and vehicles.
- Manual handling as well as other hand operated plant.
- Control and directing machine movements
Technicians will work to attain their mandatory competencies to fulfil their role and build a development plan to attain further credentials to progress within their business area.
Key Accountabilities
- Safety critical decision making, use of safety critical communications and observations
- You will ensure regulatory requirements are met by applying established policies and procedures to ensure safety operation of all plant owned or hired by RfL(I)
- Support the delivery and execution of Infrastructure maintenance works, renewals and enhancement works. This includes inspections, self-assurance checks and quality checks
- Achieve and maintain your competencies and safe working through competency management system and following work instructions and policies
- You will deliver continuous improvement through a delivery of change initiatives; specifically using Reliability Based Maintenance as part of the "Predict and Prevent" asset stewardship strategy
Skills, Knowledge & Experience
Skills
- Team leader experience with leadership skills to motivate professionals from multiple disciplines (Essential)
- Excellent interpersonal skills with proven negotiation and influencing skills explicitly with external contractors (Essential)
- Excellent decision-making and analytical skills (Essential)
- Established risk management skills (Essential)
- Ability to formulate and articulate clear visions for the planning and delivery of initiatives and programmes (Essential)
Knowledge
- HND or equivalent qualification (Desirable)
- Member or Associate of a relevant professional institution (Desirable)
- Demonstrable understanding of the business structure of and agencies associated with the Rail Industry (Desirable)
- Demonstrable application of railway safety-related standards regime and processes (Desirable)
- Knowledge of regulations required for the use of Plant and Lifting equipment (LOLER) (Desirable)
- Knowledge of Rail Safety standards (Desirable)
Experience
- Experience in the rail or other infrastructure and asset critical industries (Desirable)
- Experience in the management of infrastructure stewardship and maintenance (Desirable)
- Experience of successfully leading a team (Desirable)
- Experience of working alongside other engineering functions (Desirable)
