Overview of Role:

The role of the Civil Maintenance Engineer is crucial in ensuring the smooth coordination and delivery of safety inspections, asset monitoring, maintenance, and enhancement prioritization for all civil engineering assets and structures across RFLI Infrastructure. With a strong focus on asset stewardship and optimizing performance and lifespan, the Maintenance Engineer will be responsible for infrastructure inspection, asset data management, and risk-based prioritization to ensure the safe and reliable delivery of maintenance activities.

Working closely with the Discipline Infrastructure Maintenance Engineer (DIME), the Maintenance Engineer will play a key role in maintaining RFLI assets in a safe, efficient, and effective manner, meeting performance requirements and standards. This will involve providing support in the tactical direction of delivery maintenance teams, prioritizing and executing maintenance engineering stewardship plans, and ensuring compliance with safety-critical requirements.

The Maintenance Engineer will oversee a range of civil engineering assets, including but not limited to bridges, viaducts, tunnels, retaining walls, culverts, and other associated civil structures. They will also manage a team of technicians and subcontractors to deliver high-quality works, ensuring that all activities are performed to a high standard, on time, and within budget.

Overall, the Maintenance Engineer will play a critical role in ensuring the ongoing safety and efficiency of RFLI Civil and Structures assets. The successful candidate will need to demonstrate strong leadership skills, technical knowledge, and experience in managing a team of technicians to deliver quality works. They will also need to be highly organized, with excellent communication skills, and the ability to respond quickly to emergencies.

As a Civils (Structures and Tunnels) Maintenance Engineer at Rail for London Infrastructure, you will play a pivotal role in maintaining and optimizing the fully operational Elizabeth Line. Focusing primarily on Civil Structures, you will ensure the safe and efficient operation of critical infrastructure that millions of commuters rely on daily.

 

 Key Accountabilities:

  • Assisting in delivering the requirements of the Asset Maintenance Plan.
  • Engage Contract Managers and Examination Delivery organisation, ensuring KPI’s are acknowledged and tracked on weekly basis.
  • Be part of the Examination Review Process, ensuring recommendations are processed and works scheduled as per standard operating procedures.
  • Developing and maintaining asset data management systems to ensure the effective delivery of maintenance activities.
  • Producing technical specifications / requirements for corrective maintenance and enhancement works that have been prioritized in accordance with risk-based prioritization system
  • Conducting technical analysis, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis to deliver a safe, operable, and reliable railway.
  • Ensuring that all maintenance works are delivered in compliance with relevant standards and regulations.
  • Managing Civil assets (Structures, Tunnels, Buildings and Operational Properties) Examinations Compliance, ensuring all maintenance tasks / Examinations are sequenced correctly and scheduled in line with the Standards baseline requirements.
  • Ensure risks are managed where any assets or Examinations’ delivery is out of Compliance.

Skills, Knowledge and Experience:

  • A HNC in Civil Engineering or a related field as minimum.
  • Eng. Tech or working towards the status from bodies like ICE, IStructE, CIOB, RICS, RIBA, IAM
  • Good knowledge and understanding of Civil maintenance & Examinations processes and procedures.
  • Knowledge of Civil Inspection/examination standards.
  • Knowledge and experience in asset condition management systems such as Maximo, OPAS/ATRIUM, ESTEEM, AXIOM, CARRS, SMIS, AMIS, ELLIPSE, etc. (Desirable)
  • Knowledge and experience in faults and corrective maintenance management,
  • Expertise in applying reliability-based maintenance and risk management for safe and reliable asset systems.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong technical knowledge and experience in civil engineering asset maintenance and management.
  • Good knowledge and experience in managing Planned Maintenance / Examinations Compliance
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in Defects Prioritisation, mitigations and risks management related to particular defects / failures of components of Civil assets
  • Good Knowledge and Experience in use of Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Power BI, etc.)
