Hybrid working within this role enables a balance of 50 per cent of time split between the office and home over a 4 week period. Hybrid working arrangements can evolve subject to business requirements. 

 

Job Purpose

Our Colleague Strategy is focused on making TfL a great place to work for everyone and the Reward Strategy that underpins this is focused on transforming our Reward to make it fair, transparent and attractive for all whilst keeping it affordable.

We are developing and implementing significant changes in Reward at TfL. This includes in pay management and our journey towards pay transparency, rethinking our approach to our performance pay schemes and reinvigorating our benefits and recognition through actively listening to our people’s needs whilst maintaining our overall focus on affordability.

Needing to deliver change whilst continuing to meet the flexibility required and the high standards demanded in delivering our day-to-day activities means that we are now looking to strengthen our team at all levels (Reward Analyst, Reward Specialist and Senior Reward Manager). This will help us achieve our aspirations for Reward and to truly deliver a compelling proposition for all our colleagues. 

As Senior Reward Manager you will be one of three senior Reward subject matter experts reporting to the Head of Reward and Benefits. You will focus mainly on compensation activities, leading a small team of Reward Specialists and Reward Analysts in their work. However, we are looking for a proven all round Reward generalist, someone also capable of providing expertise and support to the management of Benefits and Recognition as the need arises. Knowledge and experience in Pensions strategy would make you even more valuable.  

 

Key Accountabilities

  • Provide SME support in compensation, benefits and recognition to a range of stakeholders including senior leadership and business partners in the Chief People Office and the wider business, delivering both strategic and tactical reward and benefits solutions.
  • Lead projects to develop and introduce new compensation, benefits, and pension frameworks to enhance our total reward proposition. Manage the planning, development, stakeholder engagement and implementation of change.
  • Lead, develop and motivate a small team of Reward Specialists and Reward Analysts to support the delivery of all aspects of our compensation, benefits and recognition frameworks including benchmarking and cyclical pay and performance processes.
  • Lead Reward’s input into annual pay planning, providing innovative solutions to support with the collective bargaining processes.
  • Ensure that our compensation, benefits and recognition proposition is non-discriminatory, complies with appropriate legislation and supports our ambitions concerning Action on Inclusion. Support our development towards pay transparency.
  • Draft People & Remuneration Committee (PRC) papers and support our PRC engagement and processes.
  • Monitor, evaluate and deliver continuous improvements across the full range of compensation, recognition and benefits processes and frameworks enhancing colleague experience as well as keeping them sustainable and financially viable.
  • Manage the procurement, day to day account management, contractual and commercial relationship for any third-party provider.

Skills, Knowledge and Experience

Skills

  • Design, development and implementation of reward frameworks, programmes - Ability to effectively influence in Reward related matters across all levels of the organisation
  • Leadership skills aligned to TfL’s Leadership Strengths framework
  • Reward and remuneration analysis and research including benchmarking
  • Commercial awareness and third party / supplier management including public sector procurement
  • Reward Communication skills
  • effective written and presentation skills
  • Third party / supplier management including public sector procurement - Evaluating reward effectiveness - Project management

Knowledge

  • Degree and CIPD qualified( desirable)
  • Understands and can articulate the linkages between business strategy, colleague strategy and reward and what drives business performance and implications for reward and recognition design and delivery
  • Deep understanding of the development of reward & benefits frameworks, packaging elements to attract, motivate and retain individuals and groups
  • Highly developed awareness of external developments and best practice in reward, benefits and recognition
  • Deep understanding of the Legal, tax law and employment regulations impacting reward
  • Expertise in Reward technologies – pay tools, excel, benefits systems, reward hub, recognition systems
  • Strong understanding of managing procurement in a public sector organisation
  • Deep understanding of employee benefits including voluntary schemes, tax efficient salary sacrifice and benefit in kind arrangements and pensions

Experience

  • People management experience – leading small teams and individual Reward Specialists below senior manager level
  • Experience of designing, developing and implementing reward & benefits solutions aligned to the business and colleague strategies within a large, complex and unionised organisation
  • Experience of reward and benefits strategic and practitioner functions within complex matrix organisations and within a large, complex and highly unionised environment
  • Experience of creating reward and benefits policies within a unionised workforce structure in such a way as to mitigate issues around equal pay and, over time, to harmonise wider terms and conditions of service
  • Experience of developing strategic reward and benefits interventions to improve performance, behaviours and culture
