The role will be nights 23:00hrs - 06:30hrs, Monday - Friday / Sunday - Thursday. However, could include days and weekend work to suit business requirements.
Job Purpose
To carry out inspections to LU defined standards and frequencies. Carry out planned and ad hoc inspections to ensure compliance. Identify and manage third party risks and carry out repairs as required to ensure the safety of the public and staff and the security and integrity of the network.
Ensuring the network is kept free from dust, fluff, grease, litter, metal particles scrap, spoil, redundant materials, by regulating a cleaning and scrap contract to ensure quality assurance and value for money to the business to prevent a build-up of said materials on the network and prevent lost customer hours. You will be part of a night team of internal Track Inspectors as well as contractors. You will be carrying out planned and ad-hoc inspections on the network and ensure planned works are completed. You will also be responsible for making instantaneous decisions by evaluating work on a daily basis through the Fault Reporting Centre.
Key Responsibilities:
- Undertake inspections in order to identify problems and develop solutions in a logical and practical manner and carry out repairs where necessary. This is essential to maintain Track safety standards
- Identification and resolution of third party risks including which pose a risk to LU infrastructure.
- Review and prioritise faults from PM5 inspection reports and update the management system.
- Complete periodic planned general inspections to required LU standards and to ensure compliance.
- Interact with customers / neighbours and attempt to resolve complaints and decide to escalate where necessary.
- Produce clear, concise, and accurate work orders for fault rectification across the network.
- Produce well structured and presented reports to identify trends and provide recommendations.
- Regularly attend team review meetings and discuss/present findings of inspections.
- Supervising contractors where required, ensuring the work is completed to required standards.
Skills, Knowledge and Experience
Knowledge
- Working knowledge of Health and Safety rules, regulations and legislation in the railway environment (Essential)
- Working knowledge of relevant engineering and railway rules, regulations, standards and legislation (Essential)
- Good knowledge of Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook (Essential)
- IOSH certificate, PWT-EH and PTS certification (Desirable)
- Hold or have held inspection license SCL T002/3 (Desirable)
- Knowledge of Track systems/Standards/Construction techniques (Desirable) COSHH awareness (Desirable)
- COSHH awareness (Desirable)
- Knowledge of Railsys, to be able to raise, request and evaluate track access, or proven ability to acquire knowledge (Essential)
- Knowledge of continuous improvement best practice in areas such as types of rail, scrap, recycling and logistics (Desirable)
- Knowledge of applying for permits and licenses pertaining to the efficient running of the Contract (Essential)
- Physical and Environmental demands (scoping sites requires a lot of walking / outside) (Essential)

Experience
- Proven experience of working in the track environment (Desirable)
- You will have experience in Track Inspections (Desirable).
- Experience of managing performance of LU / TfL and Agency teams in a busy operational, people intensive environment, with the ability to communicate clearly and effectively with people from diverse backgrounds (Desirable)
- Have previous knowledge in waste management, specifically HAZMAT knowledge (Desirable)
- Proven experience of working in the track environment (ESSENTIAL),
- You will have experience in Track Inspections (ESSENTIAL), changing from desirable to Essential
- Proven experience of working in the track environment (Desirable)
- You will have experience in Track Inspections (Desirable).
