Contract: TfL, Permanent
Transport for London (TfL) Engineers are always looking forward. Join us in the Operating Assets – Vehicles Engineering team and, as well as ensuring legacy assets are maintained to safe and reliable standards, you’ll deliver new systems and solutions. There’s more to it than trains, trams, buses and ferries: this is about connecting communities and creating opportunities so we’re ready for the rest of the 21st century and beyond.
The area of deployment for initial assignment will be within the London Underground Fleet Engineering team, supporting the Fleet Engineering Manager of one of our seven metro rolling stock types to provide tactical technical support to LU’s Asset Performance Fleet Maintenance teams to ensure the rolling stock meets its timetabled availability for our customers. Whilst this depot-based assignment is evergreen, TfL engineers support a wide variety of different operational assets so, if it aligns with business requirements, there could be opportunities in the future to explore other Vehicles Engineering assignments as part of your career development.
For this initial assignment day-to-day focus will be on delivering all activities within the rolling stock maintenance lifecycle, from failure review & root cause analysis to reliability growth, train availability support, managing safety risks & providing safety justifications, materials obsolescence queries, change assurance papers and enhancements that will keep these vital assets moving. You’ll make sure our vehicle assets are safe, reliable and compliant, developing your own solutions using your initiative, sometimes with guidance from your more experienced peers. Due to the very asset-focussed nature of the assignment, the expectation for attendance is five days per week on depot, but this can change dependant on business needs.
The depots where you could be based include, but are not limited to, Hainault (Central Line), Stonebridge Park (Bakerloo Line), Stratford Market (Jubilee Line) and Neasden and Ealing Common depots on the Sub-Surface Lines. Use your covering letter to indicate whether you have a location preference and, if so, what it might be. If you do not have a preference, please make this clear too.
You’ll need to have worked within an engineering role previously and be aware of recent developments and best practices in public transport and rolling stock. On a personal level, it’s your proactivity, confident dealings with internal and external stakeholders and clear focus on the commercial impact of your work that will set you apart.
