Key Information

 

Job title:  Track Technician x 2 positions.

Salary:  From £56,641    Grade:  SME1

Contract :  London Underground - Permanent                           

Location:  Various Location on the Central Line.

Shifts : Will be a mixture of days/nights - (Sun to Thursday NIGHTS 2300-0600/Mon to Friday DAYS 0800-1530)

Overview of Role.

 

To provide a technical planning, information and support function to the Track Technical Manager, to ensure that Track maintenance works, and inspections are completed to safety, quality, cost, and time targets.

 

Accountabilities 

 

  • Plan and prioritise own work and work of others
  • Project manage small internal projects and contract work which involve liaison and an understanding of contract compliance
  • Maintain records of (for example) rail defects and rail stress condition and report on recommended action
  • Allocate resources – labour, plant and equipment
  • Plan and organise annual tamping programme, and other engineer’s trains as necessary
  • Plan and organise trials of new plant, equipment and PPE and produce reports
  • Undertake inspections in order to identify problems and develop solutions in a logical and practical manner
  • Assess the impact of new equipment, legislation, and procedures and improve existing methods, procedures, systems, and documentation
  • Develop new working methods and procedures
  • Undertake surveys using equipment such as optical levels and track gauges, often in poor weather and poor light conditions
  • Conduct briefings, make presentations, and issue work instructions to staff and managers at all levels
  • Meet with customers and resolve complaints
  • Produce clear, concise, and accurate work instructions from what is often highly technical engineering information
  • Produce well structured and presented reports, minutes, and programmes
  • Regularly meet contractors and internal maintenance teams to plan, agree, and review schedules, costs and logistics
  • Liaise with suppliers to agree purchase type, volume, costs and delivery dates
  • Regularly meet with other units to ensure projects are properly planned and executed.

 

 

Knowledge

 

  • National Certificate in Civil or Railway Engineering or similar (Desirable)
  • HNC or higher in Civil or Railway Engineering (Desirable)
  • Basic Track Awareness (Essential), PWT TH/EH (Essential)
  • Working knowledge of LU engineering standards and railway rules, regulations, and legislation (Essential)
  • Knowledge of track plant, tools and equipment, construction, inspection, and maintenance techniques (Essential)
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook (Essential)
  • Understanding of track design and track quality reports (Desirable)
  • Stressing Level 1 & 2 (Desirable)
  • Full clean UK driving licence (Essential)
  • RailSys access booking (Desirable)
  • Procurement systems (Desirable)

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing (Essential)
  • Ability to communicate with people at all levels (Essential)
  • Ability to influence people at MM level (Desirable)
  • Analytical approach to data management and problem solving (Essential)

Experience

 

  • Proven experience of working in the track environment, 5 years minimum (Essential)
  • Experience of undertaking track inspections and surveys (Desirable)
