This is a safety critical role so you will need to get clearance from our Occupational Health team before you start.

Overview of project/role
London Trams is the business unit within London Rail responsible for procuring the safe and efficient operation of London’s tramway, as well as the strategic development of improvements to the tramway network and the delivery of new tramway projects. The LT network currently extends to 28km of rail with 35 trams and annual ridership of circa 31m.
 
The Vegetation and Environment Management (Tech) is responsible for ensuring that the off-track infrastructure and London Trams’ green estate is maintained within established tolerance levels through the systematic maintenance (planned and preventative) of the assets. This includes contractor management, planning, carrying out trackside inspections including documentation, identifying and implementing corrective actions.

 

Key Accountabilities 

  • Responsible for quality and maintenance of London Trams environment including vegetation management; graffiti removal and pest control and day to day data management
  • Responsible for scoping, planning, co-ordinating and managing vegetation and environmental works by contractors
  • Responsible for investigating and resolving defect reports (FRILs, EMs etc) where possible and arranging further remedial works where appropriate to make sure the network is safe to use
  • Responsible for the acceptance of completed works by contractor teams in accordance with industry standards and method statements to make sure LT's needs are met
  • Responsible for reviewing progress of work orders in the asset management system and ensure appropriate action is taken to address slippage
  • Responsible for carrying out lineside inspections as mandated in Specifications, Asset Management System or as required, making sure that documented quality requirements are being met on site
  • Responsible for liaising with adjacent stakeholders to ensure minimum impact on them and TfL
  • Responsible for reporting on activities and asset condition as required by the Head of Infrastructure or Vegetation and Environment Manager.

 

Skills, Knowledge & Experience 

  • qualified to an approved level such as National Diploma or equivalent or proven working knowledge of landscape and vegetation contract Management (Essential)
  • A demonstrable knowledge of plant and tree species and their identification (Essential)
  • A demonstrable knowledge of herbicides, their uses and how they are applied (Essential)
  • Knowledge of safe working and the HASAWA (Essential)
  • Knowledge of the ROGS regulations and their application to the tramway and principles of railway safety (Desirable)
  • A demonstrable experience in a similar role to include:
    • Vegetation contract management and specification of works, upgrades and renewals (Essential)
    • Development and maintenance of records and maintenance of an audit trail (Essential)
    • Maintenance or project work on light railways/railways and/or highways (Essential)
  • Use of Business Operations Systems (such as SAP or similar systems) and Microsoft Office standard package is desirable.
    Use of electronic asset management and collaborative working systems is desirable.
