Accountabilities

  • Maintain the cleanliness of the workshop, yard, and other engineering infrastructure around the Woolwich Ferry site to ensure all safety risks and hazards to personnel and equipment are avoided
  • Ensure engineering and operational waste streams are used correctly, monitored, and emptied at regular intervals.
  • Ensure workshop equipment is maintained in a ready to use state, reporting defects via the approved system when required.
  • Respond to defects reported around site to carry out safe and efficient rectifications, coordinating with Operations and Engineering teams as necessary.
  • Carry out planned and unplanned maintenance tasks as deemed appropriate by the Marine Engineering Manager.
  • Ensure compliance with Woolwich Ferry, TfL, or approved RAMS and safe systems of work at all times, including the efficient use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Assist the Marine Maintenance Supervisor with tasks and jobs around site.
  • Assist members of Engineering or Operations teams on site with works as required.
  • Assist the Material and Logistics Supervisor with deliveries and stores organisation when required.
  • Assist and supervise contractors while on site, ensuring works are completed appropriately and according to assigned Risk Assessment and Method Statements (RAMS).
  • Be trained and available to cover shift patterns of Assistant Engineering Officers if required.
  • Any other duties deemed reasonably necessary by the Marine Engineering Manager, or Marine Maintenance Supervisor.

 

Skills

  • To comply with all safety related rules, policies and procedures authorised by senior management (Essential)
  • Use of power tools, hand tools, and workshop machinery (Essential)
  • Proficient in use of Microsoft Office (Desirable)
  • Communications at all levels both internally and externally (Essential)
  • Possess the ability to work flexibly and take the initiative if the situation calls for it (Essential)
  • A strong focus on continuous improvement (Essential)

 

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of ferry and/or river Thames operations (Desirable)
  • Level 3 Welding qualification or higher (Essential)
  • GCSE or equivalent competency in Maths and English (Desirable)
  • Engineering Operations (Essential)
  • Understanding of the use of risk assessments, method statements, toolbox talks, and SHE policies (Essential)
  • Full UK driver's license to drive company vehicles where required (Desirable)

 

Experience

  • Time served apprenticeship in marine, mechanical, fitter, or welding industries (Essential)
  • Experience of working in a safety critical environment under robust safe systems of work (Desirable)
  • Proven experience of working effectively as part of a team and be oneself (Desirable)
  • Positive and motivated work ethic, strives to carry out duties to a high standard (Essential)
