Overview of the role
We are looking for an experienced Electrical Marine Engineering Manager to lead the safe, efficient, and reliable maintenance and upgrade of Woolwich Ferry’s vessels and shoreside assets. Responsible for coordinating resources and maintenance activities, you will ensure assets are available for service and operate in compliance with company and statutory standards.
The role plays a key part in delivering a safe, reliable, and punctual ferry service while driving asset performance, continuous improvement, and operational recovery. You will lead teams, manage change initiatives, and develop forward plans that enhance safety, reliability, and long-term asset sustainability.
The role will be a full time operational role based in Woolwich Ferry.
Key Accountabilities
- Responsible for providing day to day management for a team of maintenance engineers. Establishing clear goals,providing direction and supporting delivery. Lead from the front in a visible accessible fashion, and be responsible forcommunicating the strategies and objectives of Woolwich Ferry in a relevant and engaging fashion.
- Ensure that a workable suite of work safe procedures are in place, in line with the company's policies and that they are suitable for the activities being undertaken, and ensure that the team adhere to those procedures at all times.
- Ensure that the computerised asset management system is implemented in full. Establish annual maintenance plans.
- Ensure that this planned work along side all work arising and corrective work is scheduled and assigned to sufficient and competent resource and that the asset is maintained in line with the designated standards
- Manage budgets in line with company’s business plan. Constantly identifying opportunities for efficiencies to enable both increased output and cost savings. Provide periodic reporting of activities as required for escalation information.
- Provide training, mentoring and competence assessment of the team and other operatives where applicable to enable them to fulfil their roles in a safe efficient and compliant manner, and identify any development needs of the team to ensure maintenance works are carried out to a satisfactory standard.
- Manage 2nd tier contractors, consultants and external resources as required, in line with budget, in delivery of maintenance strategy, to ensure works are completed to standard.
- Participate in on call duties
- Input to the capital works plan to ensure that all relevant assets are planned to be refurbished or replaced prior to the end of their safe and economical life cycle. Specify replacement assets to meet system requirements and whole life cycle cost.
Skills
• Ability to write technical reports.
• Strong IT & computer literacy skills.
• Ability to use Planned Maintenance Software.
• Ability to appropriately coach and guide at all levels.
• Good approach to safety.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Knowledge
• Degree in relevant electrical discipline, Electro-Technical HNC/HND, or equivalent electrical qualification (essential)
• Knowledge of working with planned maintenance systems and softwares (essential).
• Knowledge of ISM code (desirable).
• Valid UK driving license (desirable).
Experience
• Experience in leading planned maintenance teams and chairing maintenance related meetings (essential).
• Extensive electrical engineering experience within operational or transport industry (essential).
• Experience of leading teams (essential).
• Experience of work with electrical, electronic and control engineering (essential).
• Remote monitoring, fault diagnostic & resolution. Experience with PLC systems (essential).
• Maintenance and repair (essential).
• Extensive experience in fault finding, continuous improvement projects and management of electricians/engineers (essential).
