We are now seeking an experienced SAP Technical Team Lead to join our team. In this pivotal role, you will be the driving force behind the maintenance and stability of our existing SAP estate — ensuring smooth operations across business-critical systems — while also acting as a key pivot for the organisation’s strategic upgrade to S/4HANA and migration to SAP RISE. Your technical leadership and vision will help shape how TfL embraces next-generation ERP to support and enhance one of Europe’s busiest and most complex transport networks.
About the Role:
The SAP Technical Team Lead is responsible for managing the service life cycle of technology within their portfolio/function, ensuring all services meet agreed standards, quality, and performance. This role is responsible in ensuring the availability of the SAP system as per agreed Service Levels communicating technically related activities to relevant parties in a customer-focused manner and addressing any issues that arise.
The Application Team Lead will also provide SAP implementation expertise as part of TfL’s transition to S/4 Hana, Rise, offering level 2 and 3 support to ensure TfL’s technology tools and services are available, up-to-date, and secure.
Key Accountabilities:
- Management of the SAP Technical Team and 3rd party resources
- Lead the technical team in the project implementation to transition TfL from SAP ECC to SAP S/4 HANA & SAP RISE
- Contribute to the delivery of activities that will ensure a successful transition to the S/4 Hana product suite
- Adhering to project plans and meeting milestone dates within a programme of works
- To work alongside TfL’s delivery partners to ensure contractual requirements are fulfilled
- Accountable for the day to day running and availability of services within their service portfolio including the service life cycle and system up-time
Knowledge:
Essential:
- Working Knowledge of Enterprise Resource Planning: SAP Basis, SAP integration technologies/systems, SAP ECC, S/4 Hana & RISE migration experience
- In depth knowledge of emerging Cloud solutions in the ERP space
- A university degree in a relevant technology/computer science subject or equivalent technical qualification, or demonstrable industry experience in a Service Support/Service Delivery environment
- Understanding of current/emerging technologies and processes in Enterprise-Wide IT services
- Knowledge of IT applications in public transportation and its business environment
- Detailed technical knowledge within the area of Technical SAP expertise
Desirable:
- IT Service Management qualification (e.g., ITIL) and its practical application in a large organization
- Knowledge of relevant legislation pertaining to the Government/Public Sector IT – e.g. Data Protection Act, EU Procurement Directives and Freedom of Information Act
- Experience in providing effective technical support services to a complex, multi-site operation
- Knowledge of the provision of effective technical support services to a complex, multi-site operation
- Skills:

Additional Skills & Experience:
- Previous hands-on SAP Basis experience, database management, system administration, operating system knowledge, performance monitoring, diagnostics and tuning, upgrades and patching, integration technology & job management
- Proven upgrade/implementation experience to SAP S/4 Hana/RISE platform inc. knowledge of new associated technologies e.g. Fiori Launchpad, Business Technology Platform (BTP)
- Extensive SAP technical configuration experience in the modules of expertise
- IT consultancy experience for SAP across multiple industries and client sites
- Significant previous experience working as part of a SAP implementation team
- An understanding of complex end-to-end integration scenarios using appropriate middleware (e.g. CIG, SAP Cloud Platform Integration, SAP PI/PO)
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, combined with the ability to adapt the communication medium to meet the needs of various target audiences
